Job Description

Utilize understanding of the underlying scientific principles of laboratory testing as well as the technical, procedural, and problem-solving aspects and demonstrate general comprehension of the many factors that affect health and disease. Recognize the importance of proper test selection, the numerous causes of discrepant test results, and deviations of test results and ethics and perform a full range of chemical, microbiologic, immunologic, hematologic, and immunohematologic laboratory procedures under the supervision of the Medical Director. Perform waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing as defined by CLIA. Perform accurate testing recognizing abnormal or unusual results, report timely results accurately, and notify appropriate parties. Properly prepare samples for testing, including labeling, specimen preservation, and transport and safe handling techniques. Demonstrate and understand the appropriate handling and reporting of proficiency samples and understand and apply theory of disease process to testing and test results. Perform and record instrument checks and quality control and routine equipment maintenance and calibration and identify QC issues and initiate proper corrective action. Follow instructions for analyzer operation and reagent preparation and document and notify lab leadership. Perform accuracy, precision, and correlation studies for new and existing assays and notify appropriate care giver of critical results and corrected results and document notification in accordance with policy. Teach procedures and evaluate trainees using established forms or examinations and review the work of medical laboratory technicians, lab assistants, and students. Demonstrate knowledge of computer functions and departmental policies and procedures and actively engage in laboratory communications and staff meetings. Assist with supply inventory, purchasing, performance improvement, and compliance plan and maintain annual competency prior to deadlines. Multiple openings.

 

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, or a closely related field including courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics; and ASCP or AMT Certification.
