Position: Water Utility Excavation Laborer
Location: Mentor, OH
Hours: Full Time (Weekends, Holidays, Emergency Call Outs)
Pay: $20.50-$34.51/Hr
Additional Premiums:
- OEPA Water Distribution Class I License: $1.50/hr.
- OEPA Water Distribution Class II License: $1.75/hr.
- Class A CDL: $3.50/hr.
- Class B CDL: $1.00/hr.
- On call Pay: $35/weekday, $50/weekend, $75/holiday

POSITION SUMMARY
Performs field work to repair, maintain, and support the water distribution system, including excavation, pipe work, and equipment operation. This role involves outdoor physical labor and emergency response to ensure safe and reliable water service.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to emergency situations and support safe operation of the water distribution system.
- Locate and repair buried water lines, leaks, and service connections.
- Perform pipe installation, connections, flushing, and cleaning.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed and system activities.
- Ensure safe work zones in streets and sidewalks, protecting pedestrians and traffic.
- Perform shop, vehicle, and equipment maintenance.
- Operate dump trucks and heavy equipment including backhoes and mini excavators.
- Interact professionally with the public during service and repair activities.
- Experience in construction and excavation work.
- Knowledge of waterline, valve, and hydrant repair and installation.
- Experience with service connections, meter setting, concrete finishing, and asphalt repair.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with coworkers, public officials, and the general public.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Availability for emergency call-out at all hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record
- Ability to pass a drug screening
