Job Description
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance of plant assets. They define and lead processes and systems for providing a proper response to failures and quality repairs to the equipment by specifying repairs and modifications to equipment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
* Developing maintenance procedures, methods, and testing
* Supporting craftsmen performing all facets of maintenance work and responding to equipment faults
* Troubleshooting equipment breakdowns
* Specifying replacement parts and ensuring the equipment is functioning correctly
* Assist Planners in the development of Work Packages
* Inspecting jobs to verify the work is performed correctly
* Partnering with other departments and customers, specifically other engineering and production teams
* Developing processes to manage maintenance tools, and equipment
* Monitoring and controlling maintenance costs
* Leading responses for emergencies, unplanned problems, and repairs
* Driving improvements in health and safety policies and procedures
* Leading improvement to maintenance methods and safety of plant, personnel, and production processes
* Provide skill-based training to craftsmen on specific equipment in the plant and general skill-based knowledge
* Programming programmable logic controllers (PLC), and distributed control system (DCS) (electrical)
* Developing installation and commissioning packages for new installation
The maintenance function must justify its existence on a profit-improvement basis. Quarterly and year-end reports generated to this end.
Measurement of Position Performance:
* Provide timely technical support to supervisors and trades
* Improve mean time to repair (MTTR), extend mean to between failure (MTBF)
* Additions and corrections to spare parts as required.
* PM & PdM program executed on time as planned
Position Goals:
The maintenance engineer has the following primary goals:
* Technical support to the maintenance staff (supervisors and trades)
* Ensure the maintenance function provides operations with the service it requires
* PM & PdM program executed as scheduled, corrective actions addressed
* Minimize MTTR and operational downtime by supporting equipment repair right the first time
Relationships:
* Work closely with operations and maintenance supervision.
* Work closely with planners and scheduler
* Work closely with stores and purchasing personnel
* Maintain good working relationships with maintenance trades
* Coordinate asset management activities with reliability engineering
* Work with other organizational units such as HR and accounting
Maintenance Engineering is different and distinct from project, process, and reliability engineering. Project Engineering supports the longer-range capital program of new installations and alterations. Process Engineering typically reports to and focuses largely on problems of production. Reliability engineering works on medium and long-term asset management by working with capital projects, process engineering, and maintenance. Maintenance engineering focuses on the preservation of day-to-day asset reliability.
Requirements, Qualifications, and Selection Criteria:
* Mechanical / Electrical engineering degree or significant experience with a tech school background desired.
* Have an understanding of equipment operation
* Have an understanding of equipment repair practices
* Ability to use a CMMS and analyze data
* Training and certifications in some of the following:
o Predictive technologies
o Repair practices
o Spare parts methodologies
