
Warehouse Material Lead
Shift: 1st Shift | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Employment Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Pay Range: $21 per hour
Additional Hours: Overtime and weekend availability required as needed
Job Summary
The Warehouse Material Lead is a "player-coach" role responsible for the tactical execution of all dock operations. You will manage the physical flow of materials into the facility and the outbound distribution of finished goods. The focus is on accuracy, speed, and safety, ensuring that every item is accounted for and that the warehouse remains an organized, high-velocity hub.
Key Responsibilities
• Dock Management: Oversee all inbound and outbound shipments.
• Accuracy & Verification: Implement strict verification processes to ensure that physical counts match Packing Slips, Purchase Orders (POs), and Bills of Lading (BOLs).
• Team Supervision: Lead a team of material handlers and forklift operators. Provide training on equipment safety, palletizing standards, and ERP data entry.
• Shipping Compliance: Ensure all outbound freight is properly labeled, palletized according to customer-specific routing guides, and compliant with carrier requirements.
• Carrier Coordination: Communicate directly with drivers and dispatchers. Resolve issues regarding damaged freight, short-ships, or missed pick ups.
• Maintenance: Ensure all docks, forklifts, etc are in safe, working order. Schedule PM with third party.
• Scrap Management: Coordinate with local vendors for scrap and dumpster pick up. Bring scrap to drop off locations when needed.
• Other Duties: Any other tasks assigned by supervisor/manager.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
• High School Diploma or GED required
Experience & Technical Skills
• 3–5 years of experience in warehouse or dock operations, with at least 1-2 years in a lead or senior role.
• Equipment: Certified or able to certify others on Forklifts (Sit-down, Reach), Pallet Jacks, and Scissor Lifts.
• Software: Proficiency in ERP/MRP software and carrier portals (FedEx, UPS).
• Documentation: Expertise in generating and auditing BOLs, Commercial Invoices, and Packing Lists.
• Organization: Strong 5S mindset – maintaining a clean, lean, and organized dock environment.
• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Additional Requirements
• Lean Manufacturing: Experience with “Kitting” or “Just-in-Time” delivery to production lines.
• Negotiation: Ability to work with freight brokers to secure spot rates for unplanned shipments.
Working Conditions
This is a shop floor position. Candidates should be comfortable with the following:
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Must be able to stand and walk for most of the shift
• Be able to work in a team environment.
• Bending, crouching, and reaching required to inspect parts and operate equipment
• Shop environment — temperatures may vary seasonally
• Noise exposure on the floor; PPE required
• Must wear required safety gear including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, sleeves, pants, and gloves.
