MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS


Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university. Minimum 2 years' experience in civil engineering, with experience in transportation and/or structural engineering. Valid Ohio E.I.T. certificate. Able to obtain Ohio P.E. licensure within 2 years of hire. Experience in developing various public infrastructure projects (e.g., highways, bridges, drainage, and others) through all stages from project conception to finalization of construction, Experience in construction inspection and administration. Experience in drafting road, bridge projects, and other projects using CADD. Possession of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license. Ability to lift 50 pounds.


Pre-employment testing required (drug and alcohol screening).

Job Description:

General: Under the direction of the Erie County Engineer, or his designee, responsible for the planning, development, design, construction, and administration of roadway, bridge, and drainage projects; conducts traffic, safety, drainage, and other studies; reviews and approves permits and plans; and assists in the general functions of the county engineer's office.


Duties:

  • Responsible for all phases of developing in-house plans and reviews designs proposed for all construction (e.g., roadway, bridge, culvert, drainage, and other projects) in accordance with accepted design standards, guidelines, proper engineering judgment, and local office standards and practice
  • Perform all aspects of construction project administration (e.g., field inspection, measurement of in progress construction work, track quantities, prepare payments, maintain project signs documents plans and other engineering documents as registered professional engineer.
  • Assist with survey field data collection
  • Review land records for projects such as deed description, rights-of-ways, and easements
  • Perform engineering calculations as required for development of plans
  • Perform traffic, drainage, safety, structural, and other studies
  • Perform traffic data collection
  • Assist with bridge inspection and bridge inspection administration
  • Operates various related office equipment,
  • Assists in preparing project specifications, bid documents, reports, and maintaining project records.
  • Review subdivision plats and plans
  • Review and approve permit applications
  • Maintain office records
  • Communicate with the public to resolve complaints, concerns, questions, and other matters of public
  • concern
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed by the county engineer.


Qualifications:

  • Experience in surveying procedures, highway and drainage layout
  • Experience in use of ODOT design manuals, standards and guidelines
  • Familiar With MS Windows computer environment and MS Office programs
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with fellow employees, the public, contractors, and other public and private agencies
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to take initiative, continually improve, and to go 'above and beyond' to provide excellence in service to constituents, stakeholders, citizens, and taxpayers  
  • Possession of a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license Ability to lift 50 pounds
