Job Summary
The Product Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting sustaining engineering efforts post-launch. This position serves as a key technical resource and liaison between R&D and various internal departments, including product management, sales, application engineering, customer technical support, and manufacturing. The Product Engineer ensures that R&D efforts are aligned with customer and business needs.
This position will be based onsite at Vertiv's Delaware, OH location.
Responsibilities:
* Understands customer requirements and applications, driving ideas and improvements for new and existing products back to R&D.
* Provides technical expertise on assigned product lines to all internal functions, including product management, sales, application engineering, customer technical support, and manufacturing.
* Creates and/or reviews engineering specifications, ECNs, tests, procedures, user manuals, submittal drawings, and sales literature for new products.
* Troubleshoots and determines the root cause of escalated or recurring field issues, reporting analysis back to internal teams and, when necessary, directly to the customer.
* Supports manufacturing by addressing new line setup questions and approving supply chain part substitutions and deviation procedures.
* Leads test technicians and assists in the lab testing of products.
* Works closely with technicians and junior engineers, providing technical expertise and guidance.
Requirements:
* Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
* 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering, product development, design, repair, or support.
* Working knowledge in power/electrical engineering, including AC and DC power < 50kVA circuits, IGBTs, inverters, rectifiers, microprocessor and sensor interfacing, firmware interfacing, DC batteries, connectors/wire harnesses, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS).
* Experience with change management and BOM creation and maintenance, preferably in Oracle.
* Ability to fluently read and understand component datasheets, electrical schematics, and PCB layouts.
* Ability to safely and effectively operate in an electrical testing lab environment.
* Familiarity with mechanical design techniques and software human interfaces.
* Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve and prevent problems quickly and methodically.
* Excellent planning, organizing, documentation, and communication skills.
* Ability to multitask and work effectively in cross-functional global development teams.
* Fluent in English, with strong interpersonal skills, including motivation and conflict resolution.
