Job Description

Position: Regional Literacy Specialist- State Support Team (SST) 

Location: State Support Team Region 14 - Hopewell Center | Southern Ohio Educational Service Center


General Description: 

The Regional Literacy Specialist provides leadership and expertise in implementing high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction across districts. This role supports educators and administrators through coaching, professional development, and data-driven decision-making to improve student reading outcomes. The specialist leads and supports the implementation of integrated multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and structured literacy practices. This position requires deep knowledge of literacy development, experience in professional learning design, and a strong commitment to improving outcomes for all learners.


Qualifications:

  1. The following are the minimum qualifications of the personnel:  
  2. A master’s degree in reading or literacy education, or a master’s degree in a related area with either reading or literacy endorsements on a state license. 
  3. Expertise in how to improve student learning through the implementation of high-quality evidence-based reading/literacy strategies.  
  4. Completion of a professional development program accredited by the International Dyslexia Association (accreditation or accreditation plus level). 
  5. Three to five years of successful classroom teaching that includes reading/literacy instruction in kindergarten through grade twelve.  
  6. Experience as a provider of professional development and technical assistance specific to evidence-based language and literacy development.  
  7. Evidence of previous development of professional development materials specific to language and literacy development.  
  8. Experience with coaching and consulting educators or leaders.  
  9. Experience designing and implementing district-wide or school-wide integrated multitiered system of supports.  
  10. Knowledge of how to analyze and use student data and adult implementation data. 
  11. Experience working with administrators.
  12. Experience facilitating or participating in the collaborative problem-solving model


Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. Experience providing instruction in special education, with a master’s degree in special education and/or an intervention specialist license.
  2. Experience providing instruction to individuals with dyslexia or individuals with risk factors for dyslexia. 
  3. Experience providing and coaching structured literacy instruction. 
  4. Experience facilitating and interpreting screening measures for identifying students at risk for reading failure. 
  5. Must pass a criminal background check.
  6. Current driver’s license and reliable transportation.
