Title: Program Coordinator
Work Schedule: Full-time, 32-36 hours per week, Monday-Friday and Saturday
Hourly Rate: $11.00-$14.00 based on experience/knowledge
Reports to: Shelter Manager
Job Description/Summary
The Program Coordinator has a key role in achieving The Humane Society of Sandusky County’s mission to be the voice for those who cannot speak. Primary focus will be to manage and support the Adoption Committee, Reception and Volunteer’s and provide excellent customer service in person and over the phone. The ability to work weekends and holidays will be required. Additional duties will be to assist with the care, feeding and cleaning of the animals and shelter facilities when necessary. All activities will be coordinated through the Director/Shelter Manager. The Program Coordinator is experienced in handling a wide-range of animal care-related tasks, and will be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The Program Coordinator must be well-organized, motivated, flexible and possess a strong work ethic and excellent customer service skills.

· Provide adoption applications to potential adopters and ensure they are completed properly
· Provide information and education on animal behavior, training, welfare, proper pet care, laws and advise prospective adopters in selecting animals
· Responsible for interviewing and screening potential adopters, reviews adoption applications, interviews applicants in a conversational way
· Observing interactions between pets and potential adopters
· Matching potential adopters with appropriate shelter pets
· Responsible for scheduling and finalizing adoptions
· Post adoption follow-up calls to check on how things are working out for both pet and adopter
· Assist with answering phones, ordering supplies, processing donations, giving tours, fundraising,
· Assist with ensuring that accurate and complete records for animals, adoptions, donations and volunteers are maintained
· Provide excellent customer service by greeting, welcoming, directing and assisting visitors.
· Provide explanation of shelter programs and policy as requested.
· Communicates behavioral and medical needs of our adoptable animals to staff and counsel potential adopters as needed.
· Able to interact safely, confidently, with compassion and concern for wellbeing with cats, dogs and other animals.
· Provide post adoption support with phone calls and behavior knowledge
· Maintain a working relationship with local veterinarians and partners
· Provide training, scheduling and supervision of volunteers
· Maintain safety and security by following and enforcing procedures and policy. Be conscientious and aware of any potential dangers and implement safety measures when necessary for the protection of all staff, visitors, volunteers and animals; follow protocols and policies as stated in the HSSC Employee Handbook.
· Establishes and maintains cooperative, respectful and effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and general public; maintains a work environment free of discrimination, harassment and retaliation.
· Maintains confidential information and records.
· Daily maintenance of company email, social media and correspondences in a timely manner.
· Ability to remain pleasant and calm even in stressful situations.
· Ability to ask appropriate questions to gather information along with the ability to feel and show empathy for others.
Requirements
• Knowledge of basic companion animal care, health and behavior.
• Proven working experience in an office environment providing customer service.
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to perform basic math and cash handling
• Solid communication skills both written and verbal
• Understand importance of cleanliness of person, work area and equipment.
• Ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise
• Experience with Microsoft Office and Excel
• Ability to organize, multitask, prioritize and work under pressure
• Ability to remain calm under pressure
• High School Diploma
• Valid Driver’s License with an insurable driving record
Experience
• Customer Service: 2 years (Required)
• Work in animal shelter or veterinary office: 1 year (Required)
