Certification Requirements
The selected candidate must have or be able to obtain a Level 2 Residential Code Official certification in accordance with Ohio Board of Building Standards (OBBS) requirements, with the exception of completing Code Academy, within one (1) year of hire.
The candidate must also pass one of the required OBBS examinations within six (6) months of hire.
Minimum Experience (one of the following required)
1–4 years of commercial trade experience, or
Completion of a high school vocational program or career center in a construction-related field, or
Associate’s degree in a construction-related field, or
Completion of Level 1 OBBS requirements and demonstrated ability to read construction documents, plans, and drawings, or
At least five (5) years of skilled residential trades experience, or
Journeyperson or FSI certificate, or
Bachelor’s degree plus 1–4 years of residential building experience, or
Residential general contractor experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Review residential construction plans, specifications, and supporting documents for code compliance.
Communicate clearly with building inspectors, contractors, architects, designers, and the public regarding deficiencies, corrections, and approval requirements.
Explain technical code issues and plan review comments in a clear, professional manner.
Coordinate with third-party review agencies to ensure timely issuance and approval of project plans.
Work with stakeholders at all levels, from corporate executives to site managers, on residential development projects.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to plan reviews, revisions, and approvals.
Support efficient permit processing timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment.
