POSITION SUMMARY: (WHAT, HOW, WHY)
The Resource/Child Care Navigator plays a crucial role in assisting individuals in accessing essential resources such as employment, training, housing, and child care. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent interpersonal communication abilities, and a deep understanding of local resources and child care options. The Resource/Child Care Navigator will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date resource information, providing direct support to visitors, managing resource materials, facilitating workshops, tracking participant progress, and generating reports.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of local resources and community organizations
- Experience working with diverse populations
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of and sensitivity to the unique needs of the target population - justice-involved, unemployed, and underemployed clients. Must be an effective communicator, critical thinker, and problem solver. Documented skill in areas of analyzing information, decision making, research skills, verbal communication, written communication, resolving conflict, workflow implementation, human relations, time management, and integrity. Ability to motivate others toward achieving goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (INCLUDED PERCENT OF TIME ON TASKS)
Resource Management
- Research and collect information on local employment, training, housing and child care resources.
- Update and maintain a comprehensive database of resources.
- Verify the accuracy and availability of resources.

Visitor Assistance
- Provide a warm welcome to visitors and assess their needs.
- Guide visitors in accessing and utilizing resources.
- Offer technical support for computer usage and online resources.
- Conduct informational workshops and resource sessions.
Resource Center Management
- Maintain a well-organized and inviting resource center.
- Inventory and replenish resource materials.
- Collect feedback from visitors to improve resource offerings.
Participant Support
- Provide one-on-one support to participants.
- Track participant progress through case notes and a case management system.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and offer ongoing support.
Reporting and Administration
- Understand and adhere to reporting requirements.
- Compile and analyze data on program utilization and outcomes.
- Prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders.
PERIODICAL DUTIES:
- Maintains positive networking with community resources needed to help achieve project goals, e.g., regularly scheduled visits/meetings with one-stop sites, area shelters, local service providers, etc.
- Conducts employment and child care follow-up on all assigned participants; maintains appropriate follow-up documentation.
- Maintains data on client demographics, client activities, and staff records required of Goodwill employees (e.g., travel reports, attendance records); and assists Workforce Development Manager/Director with data collection needed for agency or funding source.
OCCASIONAL DUTIES:
1. Participation in local community activities as needed to ensure quality services to participants.
