MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Completion of the twelfth (12th) school grade or equivalent with state licensures as STNA. Ability to lift residents with assistance. Ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude towards residents. Satisfactorily passing a physical exam and tuberculosis test, testing to be updated according to the needs of the facility. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. State Identification (State ID) is also accepted for non-drivers. Erie County residency preferred.


Pre-employment physical and drug screen required.

DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB:

Under direct supervision, is responsible for performing elementary by nursing care of residents. Perform other related duties as required.


Essential Functions to be Performed:

  • Assisting Charge Nurse in providing care to residents.
  • Performs and /or assist the patient in the performance of routine self-care such as bathing daily, shampooing, grooming, cleansing and cutting nails, oral care three tidiness daily, and dressing.
  • Prepare patients for treatment and assist with treatment: performs elementary medical functions such as faking temperatures, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weighting patients. Taking care of catheters and doing simple tests: recording routine date for charting such as fluid intake and output, stool and voiding as directed
  • Perform general light cleaning and tidying of patients' roles; has total responsibility for cleanliness of bed and changing of sheets and linens; puts things away; cleans  and other equipment used by patients.
  • Transport non-ambulatory patients; turn and position patients as directed.
  • Feed patients who cannot feed themselves; supervise the food intake of all patients.
  • Communicate with patients to establish and maintain friendly and relaxed atmosphere; encourage and support patients in acquiring basic skills for independent functioning, such as bowel and bladder training; refer questions from outside others pertaining to patient care to Charge Nurse; confer with medical personnel, client's family or friends, or supervisor to determine client's plan of care. Perform back care twice daily and as needed.
  • Observe and report signs of injury or illness; follow safety procedures and observe patients to prevent self-injury to others; monitor vital signs and statistics; note any mental or physical changes in patient's condition and report to higher authority; report needed repairs or replacement of equipment to supervisor.
  • Sterilized various types of medical equipment: cut and sterilize materials for dressings and deliver supplies and equipment.
  • May be required to maintain statistical records or simple medical information check-off system as legally mandated*
  • May be required to assist in emergency first aid specific instructions.
  • Attend in-service and staff meeting.
  • Monitor dining room at mealtimes.
  • Perform other related duties as required.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of the twelfth school grade or GED.
  • Knowledge of public relations.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to lift patients with assistance.
  • Ability to maintain a sympathetic attitude towards residents.
  • Ability to learn to perform routine nursing procedures.
  • Ability to keep information confidential.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, residents, and the general public.
  • Satisfactorily passing of physical examination and tuberculosis testing to be updated as necessary in accordance with the needs of the facility. Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed above. An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:


  • Satisfactorily passing of physical examination and tuberculosis testing to be updated as necessary according to the needs of the facility. Erie County residents preferred.


Physical Requirements:

  • Alternate frequently between sitting/standing/walking throughout an eight (8) hour workday.
  • Lift/carry a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Reaching with bilateral upper extremities into/up to/down to various heights.
  • Push/pull with twenty (20) pounds of initial force.
  • Climb onto stepladder (2 steps)
  • Bend/squat/crouch/kneel.
