POSITION: FT Equipment Operator I

DEPARTMENT: County Engineer Highway Department

SALARY: $26.09/hour — Probationary

$27.45/hour — After Probation

MINIMUM REOUIREMENTS

High school graduate or equivalent. Valid Ohio driver's license with Class B minimum Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required. Prefer one year highway construction experience and ability to lift 100 pounds. REQUIRED to work overtime on demand, any day or night as needed (mandatory during periods of inclement weather); must be able to take direction; pass pre-employment testing (drug and alcohol screening); physical and criminal background check, self-starter preferred.

Description of the Job:

Under general supervision, is responsible for the operation of vehicles and/equipment, usually of a single axle type such as dump truck, mowers, sweeper, front end loader; performs other related duties as required.

Illustrative Duties: (The duties listed below are intended to illustrate work functions performed by this classification)

 Operates various types of trucks such as dump, snow plow, stake body, etc.

 May transport materials and/or personnel and performs laboring tasks when not operating equipment.

 Operates tractors with various detachable implements

 Hauls tools, equipment, supplies, and trash

 Assists in loading or unloading supplies, materials, and equipment

 Supervises other workers in loading 01' unloading supplies, materials, and equipment

 Maintains road and land surfaces through the use of shovels, rakes, and other equipment and tools Assists with the resurfacing of highways and roads; helps repair roads and sewer systems

 Performs the duties of a laborer or semi-skilled laborer.

 Performs other related duties as required.


Equipment Operator I — Engineer's Highway Department

Necessary Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: (At the time of filing application).

 Knowledge of the use of various types of trucks such as dump and salt

 Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

 Ability and willingness to perform heavy physical labor for extended periods of time

 Work occasionally under adverse weather conditions

 Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, and the general public

Qualifications Desirable for Employment:

 Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed above.

 Completion of the twelfth school grade and two years of equipment operating experience

 Valid commercial driver's license  Erie County resident preferred
