General Purpose for Job: Responsible for providing support in all sites as needed due to absence or volume. Support may be provided in the kitchen as a kitchen aide or in the site office as an assistant or coordinator to ensure optimal operations of the nutrition site to support Congregate Lunch Sites and/or Meals on Wheels programs.

Department Director or Administrator: Director for Community Services

 

 

 

DUTIES(The duties listed below are illustrative of the work performed by this classification. All duties are essential functions of the job unless otherwise noted with an asterisk (*).  The percentage of time allocated to each group of duties is approximate.)

 

 

Support in the kitchen to include but not limited to:

Preparation of kitchen; Responsible to check all kitchen appliances to remain in working condition.

Receive food delivered by caterer, check quantity, quality and temperature; Receive and check supplies and store supplies in the proper manner; Ensure proper refrigeration of all foods and supplies

              

Preparation of food:  Heat food to proper temperature and record results; Package hot food in the proper containers for home delivered meals; Package cold items in paper bags; Help volunteers count necessary containers for the meal delivery each day; Prepare and serve food for congregate and HDM meals by heating to proper temperature and record results.

 

Clean-up duties: Clean and sanitize serving containers, utensils and kitchen appliances each day

Clean and sanitize thermal insulated bags used to transport home delivered meals; Remove garbage and arrange kitchen for next day. 

 

Support to the Assistant or  Site Coordinator to include but not limited to:  

Clerical support - Communication - Answer phone calls and document the call. Communicate information from the call to the appropriate source. Email client information to administrative support and case manager as needed. Support delivery volunteers with information, route sheets and handling unusual situations and express appreciation for their service. Call clients as needed.   Assume the training and guidance of new volunteers or temporary staff, clerical duties as needed and step in to contact substitute drivers if needed.

 

Clerical Support – Computer - Manage email communications about clients, volunteers and the site to and from to communicate accurate and complete information in a professional and timely manner. Data entry of meal units in Peer Place, complete Peer Place reportsmeal reports prepare daily, weekly and monthly summary reports;

Assist with route sheet changes and preparing weekly meal order manage the banking and daily donations and complete the donation log form.  

 

Be of general assistance to the department or agency       

Assist with activities that support accomplishing the mission of the nutrition site. Assist with meal delivery. Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings and training. Perform other related duties as assigned

 

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE        

 

 

Education: High School diploma; partial high school education is acceptable  

 

Experience: A minimum of six months experience working with food preparation and providing service to the elderly; basic math skills are required. PC proficient.  

 

A different combination of education and experience may be acceptable if deemed equivalent.

  • Work in accordance with the Agency’s mission, policies and operating procedures.
  • Operate and maintain food preparation and warming equipment.
  • Follow the Quality Assurance guidelines from the Ohio Department on Aging for Meals and

Nutrition Service Specifications for congregate, home delivered and PASSPORT meals.

  • Perform simple math calculations and record straightforward information.
  • Adapt to changes with equipment, food service requirements, and site schedules.
  • Provide assistance, support or other care in a sensitive and helpful manner.
  • Understand behavior and dynamics specific to seniors as well as pertinent societal trends and influences. Understand the physical, psychological, economic and social needs of aging.
  • Respect diversity, individuality and community by treating each person in a caring and respectful fashion, mindful of individual differences and cultural, social, and ethnic diversity with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, political belief, religion and mental or physical disability.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintain them over time. Develop effective external relationships and address circumstances where improvement is needed.  Treat internal and external colleagues with respect; avoiding unwarranted negative criticism of colleagues in communications with clients, other professionals or agency staff.

  • Persuade, negotiate and resolve conflicts. Maintain composure during periods of high stress; keeping emotions in check, controlling anger and avoiding aggressive behavior and not allowing personal problems, psychosocial distress, legal problems, substance abuse, or mental health difficulties to interfere with professional judgment and performance.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Develop alternatives and creative solutions where the typical response to a problem would be ineffective.
  • Work within budgetary, procedural and/or policy guidelines and constraints.

License or Certification Required:  Person-in-charge and/or Serv-safe certificate or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment acceptable criminal history background check and a valid and current state of Ohio driver’s license and a driving record which qualifies the employee for coverage under the agency’s insurance policy.

 

 

Physical Demands: Frequent walking, bending and stooping; occasionally lifting heavy weight (20+ pounds) and standing for long periods of time

 

 

 

Other Demands and Constraints: A reliable car for use on all workdays is required.
