Positions: Developmental Specialist (Contract)
Description: The Pickaway County Board of Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Developmental Specialist on a contract basis to provide services within its Early Intervention (EI) Program. This is an ongoing independent contractor position with an estimated workload of approximately 1,248 hours per year. The typical workload is around 24 hours per week, though hours may vary throughout the year due to holidays, family needs, and program demands.
The Developmental Specialist works with families and children from birth to three years of age who have identified developmental delays or disabilities. Services are delivered in the family’s home, virtually, or in other natural environments. Candidates must enjoy working collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary team members and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong organizational and time‑management abilities. The schedule is flexible and may include evenings to accommodate family availability.
Summary of Duties: The Early Intervention (EI) Developmental Specialist serves as the Primary Service Provider (PSP), delivering special instruction services and supports to infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities using evidence‑based practices within a transdisciplinary team model.
Responsibilities include assisting the EI team and families in planning and developing the Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) for each child; managing a caseload while delivering EI special instruction services; and maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant documentation for each child served. The Developmental Specialist participates in weekly team meetings and collaborates with other team members to complete comprehensive assessments and/or developmental evaluations, identifying children’s and families’ strengths and needs within specified timelines.
Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a field of study in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Nursing or related field; Have and maintain a valid driver’s license, as well as submit to initial and periodic state and/or federal criminal background checks.
Certification: Meets or is eligible for the necessary EI Developmental Specialist certification requirements.
Compensation: Compensation is provided on a contract basis at an hourly rate, invoiced according to terms outlined in the contract. This position is not eligible for employee benefits.
