Seasonal positions are available at the following locations:
Mahoning County Maintenance Facility, 401 West Main Street, Canfield, OH 44406
Portage County Maintenance Facility, 3946 Rootstown Industrial Pkwy, Ravenna, OH 44266
Summit County Maintenance Facility, 6155 Chittenden Road, Hudson, OH 44236
What You Will Do:
- Receives Training in performance of preventative maintenance and service on cars, trucks, and equipment
- Assists with performing minor repairs or other related mechanical work

Official Position Description:
Receives training to become proficient in automotive &/or equipment maintenance/repair & assists higher level mechanics in repair & replacement of major parts on cars, trucks &/or agency-identified equipment (i.e., see Page 1, Glossary, for identification of all types of equipment) &/or motorcycles; assists with performing routine service & maintenance (e.g., checks fluid levels &/or batteries; lubricates joints, hinges &/or latches; changes oil & replaces filters; replaces spark plugs; performs tire changes; services the cooling system; dispenses fuel &/or fluids as needed) & repairs & replaces minor worn out parts (e.g., hoses, fan belts & other replaceable components).
Assists with &/or services vehicles in field or on road (e.g., performs minor repairs &/or transports parts; cleans garage area; maintains records of service or maintenance performed; operates tow truck, dump truck &/or snowplow; washes vehicles or equipment/heavy equipment; pumps fuel); learns to service ODOT¿s Central Hydraulic System, snowplow lighting systems, salt spreading systems, heavy/heaviest equipment, snoopers, vactor jets, & Global Positioning System/Automatic Vehicle Locator (i.e., GPS/AVL) systems.
Checks fuel pump or stick readings to determine amount of fuel remaining in storage tanks & cleans & maintains fuel pumps & pumping area; records fuel output & computes remaining levels; receives fuel deliveries & completes forms; inventories supplies; orders, receives, measures & samples fuel &/or supplies; operates radio; mows & trims lawn; provides emergency service to vehicles; delivers or picks up vehicles; provides assistance, information & support to higher level mechanics & co-workers.

Qualifications-Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication & division; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in automotive mechanics; valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.
