Position Title
Classroom Associate / Student Support Aide
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Salary Range
$30,000 – $40,000 annually
Job Purpose
Provide support with the assessment, planning, instruction, and documentation of educational services and activities for assigned students under the direction of the Principal and instructional staff.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Align practice with organizational mission, vision, guiding principles, trauma-informed care approaches, and educational support models
- Work cooperatively with classroom teaching teams to implement daily instructional plans
- Provide assistance and close supervision of assigned students during classroom and instructional activities
- Assist with preparation of teaching materials, bulletin boards, and instructional resources as directed
- Support classroom organization, including visual displays, behavioral tracking, and data collection
- Document daily student activities and progress in a timely and accurate manner
- Transport students to community-based activities and work sites, as needed
- Provide respectful assistance to students with personal care, including grooming, hygiene, and toileting
- Participate in required trainings (including CPR, First Aid, safety, and crisis intervention training)
- Attend staff development activities, team meetings, and parent conferences as assigned
- Work effectively with culturally diverse student populations
- Demonstrate safe work practices for self and others
- Utilize technology for documentation and communication tasks
- Present in a professional manner appropriate to the work environment
- Follow all organizational and program policies and procedures
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- Associate degree (minimum)
- Less than an associate degree may be considered with relevant experience
- Experience:
- Experience working with children with autism and/or developmental disabilities preferred
- Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Effective decision-making and judgment
- Ability to remain professional under routine and stressful conditions
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to participate in physical interventions when necessary (including managing aggressive behaviors safely using trained techniques)
- Ability to assist students in physically demanding situations (kneeling, bending, holding)
- Ability to support outdoor and activity-based programming (e.g., walking, hiking, recreation)
- Ability to use a computer and perform documentation tasks
- Ability to move throughout classroom, school, and community settings
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods
- Ability to monitor student safety visually and auditorily
- Ability to meet driver eligibility requirements and operate a vehicle to transport students
