Assist with upgrading and preparing company computers for production use. This role focuses primarily on hardware upgrades, Windows installation, and workstation preparation. The technician will remove computers from service, perform upgrades such as laptop hard drive replacement, install and configure Windows and Microsoft 365, and return systems to operational use. This position is best suited for someone comfortable working directly with computer hardware and performing repetitive deployment tasks efficiently and carefully.
Key Responsibilities
- Replace and install hard drives in laptops and desktop computers, including full laptop disassembly and reassembly when required.
- Install and configure Microsoft Windows on upgraded systems.
- Remove computers from service, perform upgrades or updates, and return them to production use.
- Configure Microsoft 365 services including OneDrive.
- Set up and verify Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
- Configure Microsoft Teams to function as a telephone endpoint.
- Prepare and deploy workstations for employees.
- Distribute and configure peripherals such as mice, keyboards, headsets, and docking stations.
- Perform system updates and ensure systems are fully patched before returning to service.
- Maintain organized tracking of completed upgrades and deployed equipment.
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience working inside laptops and desktop computers, including replacing internal drives.
- Ability to carefully disassemble and reassemble laptop systems without damaging components or case.
- Experience installing and configuring Microsoft Windows.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and OneDrive.
- Basic experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to configure common peripherals and workstation hardware.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow deployment procedures.
