An analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of an individual?s educational level, work history, basic skills, occupational skills, vocational skills, interests, and/or identification of employment barriers.
Basic Skills Training
Instruction normally conducted in an institutional setting and designed to upgrade basic skills and prepare individuals for further training and future employment.
Business Services and Recruitment
Activities that assist employers with their employment needs. Services may include customized training, pre-hire service, screening and referring of qualified applicants, and labor market information. The process of finding the best-qualified individuals for a job opening, in a timely and cost effective manner.
Career Exploration, Job Matching and Job Placement
Process in which an individual chooses training or a job that fits their interests, skills, and abilities. Job matching is the process of matching the right person to the right job. Services that help individuals identify and secure paid employment that matches their skills, qualifications, experiences, and interests.
Continuing Education/Professional Development
Courses or workshops that is required for retaining or maintaining certification. The gaining of skills and knowledge both for personal development and for career advancement. It includes all types of learning opportunities, ranging from college degrees to formal coursework and conferences.
Co-Op/Internship related training/Apprenticeship
Structured educational strategy adding classroom studies with learning through work experiences.
Education and Training (Certificates, 2-yr and 4-yr degrees)
A certificate is an award received to recognize an individual?s attainment of measurable technical or occupational skills necessary to gain employment or advance within an occupation. An educational program leading to receipt of a two-year degree in a selected field of study, i.e. associate?s degree in accounting or business administration, etc. An educational program leading to receipt of four-year degree in a selected field of study, i.e. bachelor?s degree in business administration, computer science, etc.
Licensing and Testing for Careers (Testing Fees)
The process of taking required education, and possibly final tests, to obtain a license for a career, i.e. certified public accountant, licensed vocational nurse, etc.
Remedial Education and Academic Intervention for Students
Education and training designed to bring underprepared students to expected competency levels. Instructional approach focusing on the specific techniques and materials used to teach a given subject.
A predetermined amount of money that is provided periodically to help offset expenses.
Supportive Services (Child Care, Transportation, Uniforms, Books, Other Supplies/Materials, etc.)
Services necessary for an individual to participate in activities, including transportation, child care, dependent care, housing, and needs-related payments.
A tax incentive for businesses hiring individuals who face specific barriers to employment.
