Job Description: American Medical Transport is hiring a full-time Driver to cover Stark County, Summit County and occasionally Portage County, OH.

 

AMT clients include hospitals, private medical practices, clinics, skilled nursing facilities, insurance companies and residences. NO CDL REQUIRED! AMT Non-Emergency Medical Drivers are responsible for safely operating vans. The primary objective of our Drivers is to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation, while respecting our clients. 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Driver's primary responsibilities are to provide a safe and timely transport to clients who need any transport other than by ambulance. The Driver will aid clients who are unable to ambulate on their own. The Driver will be expected to identify ways to provide customer service, including door to door assistance and presenting themselves in a friendly professional manner at all times.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 23 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license.
  • Have a clean driving record, must provide copy of record.
  • Pass a background check, drug test, as well as a physical.
  • Have a good working cell phone.

 

EQUIPMENT USED:

  • Various types and sizes of wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches and other devices associated with movement.
  • The Driver will possess the knowledge of how to use personal protective devices for his or her own safety.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Report to work on time each day well groomed, and in clean clothing.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to arrive to work on time each day and have good time-management skills.
  • Ability to drive in all kinds of weather conditions.
  • Review daily agenda of pre-scheduled calls, locate address on map, if time permits.
  • Transport clients according to schedule.
  • Provide a clean and safe environment for their passengers and those around them.
  • Maintain calm, pleasant, courteous attitude toward clients, family members and allied health personnel.
  • Pre-Inspection Vehicle Inspection to be filled daily (Form ODA008).
  • Driver Log to be filled out completely daily.
  • Take signature from the customer after every trip (it is proof that we served the client, so that we can bill Medicaid or the insurance company).
  • Turn in ALL private payments to the office within 24 hours.
  • Turn in your hours every Tuesday by noon.
  • Fill out the “Van Issues” white board in the office.
  • Communicate with the office in case of a cancelled trip or with any other issues
  • Immediately report any problems which may cause a delay in pick-ups to dispatch.
  • Must have a working cell phone and respond to office communications in a timely manner (within 15-20 minutes)
  • Must have a safe place to store the van.

  • Maintain designated vehicle in a clean manner inside and outside.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

MUST ATTEND THE FOLLOWING:

  • Certification in CPR and at least one of the following:
  • Basic first aid; each Driver/Attendant must have proof of successful completion of the American Red Cross or equivalent certifying organization basic course in first aid as approved by the board.

 

A valid copy of a program designed for transporting clients with special needs that include the following elements: 

  • Major disabling conditions.
  • Basic considerations for functional factors.
  • Management of wheelchairs.
  • Assistance and transfer techniques.
  • Environmental considerations.
  • Emergency procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical Effort: Physical demands including lifting (over 50 lbs.), climbing, pushing, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching. Requires bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, occasional lifting and other repetitive movements associated with the transport of wheelchairs and patients. Eyesight must be in compliance with the standards set forth by ODOT for day and night driving and may be corrected with the aid of prescription eyewear. Hearing of low and high frequencies is required and may be corrected with the use of hearing aids.


Work Environment: Works outdoors, in weather common to the region, on a regular basis. If driving a wheelchair van must be able to bend and lift patients in wheelchairs as a regular part of the job. Must be able to lift and carry crates of mail or specimens. 

 

Reports to Service Manager.

 

BENEFITS/PAY:
Company pays for the background check and drug test – If the above is satisfactory and approved by insurance then:

  • Paid training with Lead Driver - normally 2 weeks, may differ depending on review.
  • 90 days probation - probation period may be extended based on review.
  • Following probation, holiday pay for the following 6 holidays for full-time employees: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas.
  • After 1 year of service, following probation, full-time employees qualify for 5 prorated days of paid vacation.

 

Details: Full time. 1st Shift. 30 to 40 hours/week. Monday through Friday (1 to 2 Saturdays per month). Wage TBD (based on experience).

 

Qualifications: High School Diploma / GED. Must be at least 23 years of age. Must be able to lift more than 50 lbs.

 

Driver’s License Requirement(s): Must Have Valid Ohio Driver’s License.
