Job Skills / Requirements
Works with children and/or adults with disabilities and/or challenging behaviors in community recreational settings and/or on-site as assigned by the Recreation Manager or Recreation Assistant. Provides respite care and assistance to individuals in basic social and recreational activities in bot indoor and outdoor settings. Assists individuals as needed with personal care, mobility and communication. Follows through on plans and preparations for individual and group recreational activities. Monitors recreation program and activities in progress to ensure individuals are involved, properly supervised and safe.
Operates Board-owned vehicles as assigned to transport ambulatory and non-ambulatory individuals to/from community activities in a safe manner. Monitors maintenance of vehicle and cleanliness, re-fuels vehicles. Reports any vehicle issue to the Recreation Manager or designee. May give medication or perform delegated nursing tasks, if authorized. Responds to emergencies and provides basic first aid care as needed.
Prepares and maintains records and reports (e.g. daily activity sheets, medication care, incident reports, progress in program participation, individual behavior program); informs Recreation Manager of individuals' progress, problems, and behavior. Attends and participates in scheduled special events, training sessions, in-services, and designated staff meetings. Completes quarterly and annual required Board training.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED; Valid First Aid/CPR certification (skills based training); Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record to be certified to drive Board vehicles and transport individuals (requires successfully passing pre-employment physical and driver safety training). Certifications must be maintained after employment.
