About the Job

The Division of Pediatric Psychiatry and Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics at Akron Children's Hospital is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a full-time pediatric psychologist.  The selected candidate will spend half of their time dedicated to integrating psychological services within our strong multi-disciplinary Sports Medicine Department.  This specialized program is known for its collaboration between sports orthopedics, sports physical therapy, and sports medicine in the Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine.  This growing team includes orthopedic surgeons, primary care medical physicians, sports physical therapists, certified athletic trainers, nurse practitioners, certified strength coaches, and researchers. 


This broad programming serves patients at various Akron Children's Hospital sites, is involved at 30 local high schools, and 2 local colleges: Division I - University of Akron, and Division 2 - Walsh University.  The position includes both outpatient and inpatient assessment and treatment opportunities with children, adolescents, young adults and their families within the sports medicine specialty.  


In addition to developing psychological services within sports medicine, the selected candidate will also provide services with one of the following pediatric psychology specialty areas:


*         Healthy Active Living - joining a multidisciplinary weight management and bariatric program focused on the assessment and treatment of children and adolescents with weight management concerns.

*         Sleep Medicine - joining a growing multidisciplinary team to expand psychology-related services within the present behavioral sleep medicine program.

*         Primary Care Integration - initiating programing of integrated psychological services to children, adolescents and families in our North Canton Regional Health Center, including  a primary care clinic and specialty medical services.


This position also offers opportunities for training and supervising post-doctoral pediatric psychology fellows, including work within the general psychology inpatient Consultation Liaison Service.


Requirements include a doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in clinical psychology (child or pediatric emphasis preferred) from an APA-accredited doctoral program, completion of an APA-accredited internship (child or pediatric emphasis preferred), license eligibility in the State of Ohio, and a strong interest in evidence based pediatric psychology.  Applicants who have experience in Sports Medicine and have completed a post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology are preferred.
