The Department of Pharmacology and Systems Physiology at the University of Cincinnati within the College of Medicine is seeking a Senior Research Assistant. Under general supervision of Andrew Norman PhD, the Sr. Research Assistant will provide technical support, administrative support, and perform experimental procedures. The Sr. Research Assistant will also support writing and submission of grant proposals.

Position Description:

-Engage in research experiments and assist other laboratory personnel. Experiments may include, but are not limited to, rodent handling and tissue collection, ELISA, affinity testing, and preparation of antigen/antibody/reagents,

-Maintain laboratories in good working order including but not limited to :
maintenance of satellite animal facilities
overseeing routine equipment preventative maintenance (PMs)
coordinating equipment repair
order supplies and animal requisitions
track and maintain inventory
maintain records of receipts and payments
order and track controlled substances

-To lead and oversee the day to day running of the laboratory function and management of staff. Ensure the laboratory is operated safely and in accordance with EH&S regulations and guidance.

-Develop and approve procedures, technical documentation and SOPs.

-Assist in training students and other trainees in laboratory procedures.

-Review notebooks and procedures of trainees and junior lab members: Graduate students, undergraduates and post-doctoral fellows.

-Work through the proposal development process to conceptualize, draft outlines, conduct research and write proposal sections to ensure overall quality, consistency and responsiveness of all elements of   technical proposals; ensure the highest quality of writing for all proposal sections prepared by faculty and staff.

-Assist in publication and communication of experiment data: May contribute to authoring/submitting/preparing manuscripts and abstracts. Regular opportunities to presentation at local and national meetings.

-Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with academic, professional, and administrative staff. Including representatives of collaborating laboratories at the University of Cincinnati as well as outside  collaborators in industry and regulatory bodies such as the NIH, FDA, and NIDA.

-Provide flexibility where required to ensure strict deadlines are met.

Minimum Qualifications: Academic degree in related area of research or equivalent combination education/experience.

Ideal Qualifications:  Master's degree in pharmacology or molecular biology with 2 years of research.

Knowledge/Experience:  Professional that demonstrates understanding of research fundamentals (e.g. testing and evaluating procedures, data validation and interpretation) and knows fundamental concepts of pharmacology, molecular biology, or biochemistry research discipline; demonstrates ability to learn, acquire new skills, work in teams, and work on pieces of projects/studies.
