JOB POSTING – Research Assistant 

Full time: Main Campus; Mon-Fri 8 AM – 5 PM

 

We are seeking a Research Assistant -   Our lab investigates the pathogenesis of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in the immunocompromised host and after congenital infection. We study host immune responses to CMV in murine renal transplant and neonatal infection models, as well as among clinical populations (kidney and hematopoietic cell transplant patients, infants with congenital CMV infection). The research assistant will participate in murine viral immunology experiments and may assist other lab members with patient-related studies. The assistant may also have the opportunity to assist in analyzing data and preparing publications. We welcome individuals who are curious, energetic, and have an interest in viral immunology. Individuals interested in future clinical-translational patient-based careers are also welcomed to apply.

What Will You Be Doing?
 The individual will be trained to perform research experiments in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator. Laboratory assays may include PCR, immunofluorescence microscopy, ELISA, ELISpot, and flow cytometry assays. Experiments may involve the use of laboratory animals and/or biological samples derived from human subjects. This position may require evening and/or weekend duties, as needed for experiments.
 The individual will be trained to propagate and titer CMV in tissue culture, and to perform infections of mice and cell cultures in-vitro.
 The individual may assist with documentation and storage of patient-derived samples, including blood, urine, and other samples as needed.
 The individual will maintain the mouse colony and assist with experiments in the transplant and neonatal infection model.
 The individual will maintain accurate logs of experiments including methods and results, perform general lab maintenance and adhere to proper safety procedures. 6. Performs miscellaneous related duties.



Qualifications

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

Bachelor’s degree; laboratory research experience OR certification and experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
Laboratory experience preferred, but willingness to learn new techniques is also desirable.
Coursework in anatomy, physiology, relevant research methods are desirable.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

 

Percent of time spent on:

80% Performing experiments, preparing results for discussion with PI and lab team
20% General animal colony and laboratory maintenance

Minimum physical requirements:

100% Kneeling / reaching
100% Finger dexterity
100% Talking / hearing / seeing
33% Lifting / carrying weight 0-20 pounds for 1-5 minutes
