Full Time: Main Campus; Mon-Fri- 8AM-5PM

We are seeking a Research Assistant - A Research position is available immediately to assist and support scientific investigation to study congenital anomalies in the clinical and translational pediatric surgery laboratory of Oluyinka O. Olutoye, MD, PhD. We are looking for a dynamic motivated individual with creative abilities who can work within a multidisciplinary team. Our team is focused on creating translational models of various congenital anomalies and neonatal diseases with limited therapeutic options. The ideal candidate will have experience working with animal models and familiarity with clinical research and coordination of studies. This individual will execute planned research activities, set up and operate laboratory equipment, monitor research supply and inventory to initiate procurement requests as needed, assist in the training of junior research staff in research methods and equipment operation, perform and summarize data analysis, oversee and maintain accurate records, prepare laboratory reports, assist with publications, read literature and gain expertise in the field. Additionally, this individual will have the opportunity to participate in clinical research projects and assist in enrollment of patients in studies, collecting specimen samples and participating in staff and patient education. Superior organization and time management skills are highly desired.

What Will You Be Doing?

• Operate lab equipment such as centrifuges, digital microscope for cell imaging, mass spectrometer, etc

• Collect data and maintains accurate logs

• Analyze data and summarize for use in publications

 • PCR, cell culture, immunoasorbent assays, aseptic techniques, metabolomics

 • Perform basic husbandry of animals and experimental procedures including surgery

 • Data collection and computer data entry

• Sterilization of equipment

• Communicate routine research procedures and results to other technicians or study team

• Maintain research equipment, reagents, supplies, general laboratory safety

• Preparation of experimental animal models, collection and storage of biological samples

 • Readily learn and adapt new techniques

 • Maintain confidentiality of records and information

 • Recruit, evaluate and instruct clinical research subjects and volunteers

 • Prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols



Qualifications





What Are We Looking For?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Sciences: Cellular/Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Health sciences or related field

• Desire to pursue a career in clinical, translational, and/or biomedical research, and knowledge of the research process.

 • Experience with PCR, cell culture, aseptic techniques

• Necessary technical skills in the appropriate area of research. Background in animal surgery desirable.

• Experience with short, intermediated and longer-term project planning and clinical research • Ability to do technical writing, and good communication skills.

 • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information

• Ability to recruit, evaluate and instruct clinical research subjects and volunteers

• Ability to prepare and process laboratory samples using established protocols

• Knowledge of the principles and procedures of translational and clinical research
