Full time Exempt: Main Campus; Mon-Fri 8 AM – 5 PM

 

We are seeking a Research Assistant -   A Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Agrawal in the Center for Clinical and Translational Research at Nationwide Children’s Hospital Research Institute, Columbus, OH. Dr. Agrawal’s research interests have both basic and translational components with a committed focus on kidney disease.   We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented and organized Research Assistant to perform bench research studies including molecular, cellular and RNA biology techniques in the laboratory and animal experiments in the vivarium. The Research Assistant will work under the supervision of the Principal investigator and follow laboratory protocols as well as troubleshoot and develop new protocols and technologies. Enthusiasm to learn new techniques, ability to multitask (carry on several projects simultaneously), and strong teamwork and interpersonal skills are essential. The main research interests of my lab include, but are not limited to:
 Modulation of podocyte nuclear receptors to develop improved therapies for nephrotic syndrome
 Understanding the podocyte and glomerular RNA biology for future therapeutics
 Elucidating liponephrotoxicity

What Will You Be Doing?

The Research Assistant will use a variety of experimental techniques including techniques in molecular and cellular biology, microscopy, physiology, genetics, and biochemistry. At the bench, these would include but not limited to RT-PCR, cloning, immunoblotting, mammalian cell culture, RNA biology experiments and immunofluorescence microscopy. The Research Assistant will also be required to work extensively with rodents such as mice and rats, maintain and update IACUC protocols, perform routine experimental procedures such as IV, IP and oral gavage treatments, blood, urine and tissue collection. The Research Assistant will analyze and compile results from experimental data and prepare reports and maintain accurate daily logs of experiments including methods, results, and conclusions and assist in preparation of manuscripts and grants. 

 1. Performs research experiments independently or semi-independently in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator. Such experiments may involve the use of laboratory animals or human subjects any may require evening and/or weekend duties.

2. Prepares and tests substrate, conducts assays, and prepares tissue cultures for use in research studies, as applicable. Collects blood, urine, and other samples as needed. Such activities may be performed independently and may require evening and weekend hours.

3. Ensures accuracy of laboratory analytical procedures as required by specific research projects.

4. Collects and controls experimental data and patient information; and maintains accurate daily logs of experiments including methods, results, and conclusions.

5. Interprets the results of data analyses with input from the principal investigator.

6. Assists the principal investigator in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals.

7. Make recommendations about refinement and/or replacement of laboratory analytical procedures. Implements such refinements or new procedures with input from the principal investigator.

8. Orders supplies needed to conduct research; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; and assures that research equipment is in good working order.

9. Collaborates in the preparation of research budgets, and monitors expenditure of funds to assure that studies are conducted within budgetary constraints.

10. Instructs other laboratory workers and students in standard methods, practices, procedures, and equipment operations.

11. Maintains a clean working area and performs general laboratory maintenance. Adheres to proper safety techniques and procedures.

12. Performs miscellaneous related duties.   



Qualifications

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

Candidates should have a BS or MS in the life sciences with some laboratory experience.
Experience with molecular biology, RNA technologies, mammalian cell culture, PCR, cloning, western blotting and animal experiments is a plus.
