The Division of Research of Hoxworth Blood Center is searching for a highly motivated, detail-oriented individual for our Research Laboratory. The candidate will assist in the execution of SOP-driven research projects in pre-clinical and clinical trials in transfusion medicine and/or cell therapies.
Major Duties and Responsibilities include:
Perform pre-clinical (T0) in vitro testing for red blood cell (RBC), plasma and platelet studies within the requirements/framework of SOP driven research and/or GLP.
Perform phlebotomy (whole blood and apheresis collections) on research donors under informed consent.
Assist with transfusions of blood components or cell products for FDA IND regulated clinical trials for PK studies, phase I safety (T1) and/or phase II efficacy (T2) clinical trials.
Develop and implement SOPs for department processes and experimental procedures.
Solve problems using combined research knowledge and innovative thinking.
Contribute effectively to the collective team effort.
Utilize internal and external resources to:
reproduce, evaluate, and improve existing techniques and,
establish new techniques.
Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory testing and experiments. Analyze data, perform statistical and graphical analysis of data, and interpret results. Author material for reports, journal articles, and abstracts.
Strong time management, organizational, effective problem solving, and multi-tasking skills are required.
Good communication and teamwork skills are required.
Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two (2) years of experience working full time as a Research Assistant, or Master's Degree in a related field. Expertise in regulated research, i.e. SOP-driven, GLP and/or CLIA certified environment is a plus. Applicant with previous experience in red blood cell, platelet function, flow cytometry, immunology and/or coagulation studies, and phlebotomy skills are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Qualifications: Academic degree in related area of research or equivalent combination education/experience.
