Job Description

On behalf of a company in the Akron area, OhioMeansJobs|Summit County is recruiting for a Furnace Operator.

The Furnace Operator job entails some of the following: setup, loading, lifting up to 40 lbs., operating and unloading All-Case hardening furnaces, tempering furnaces, salt bath furnaces, and/ or vacuum furnaces. The Furnace Operator also performs in process inspections of their semi-finished work in accordance with specifications called out on traveler / router that accompanies all work. Our company is seeking 1 or more years of furnace operator experience. However, we will provide training to someone without experience, who has demonstrated a history of good attendance and work ethic. Forklift and industrial facility experience is a plus. This position is very repetitive job.

Job Expectations:
  • Perform work with very little supervision after completion of training.
  • Operate heat treating furnaces, performing case hardening, tempering, carburizing, annealing, normalizing and quenching operations on a variety of production parts using standard heat- treating charts, and utilizing knowledge of heat-treating methods, equipment and properties of metals where cycle time, temperature and methods are prescribed.
  • Sets and regulates temperature controls, visually checks for foreign matter, positions parts on racks or in baskets, loads furnaces, monitors heat cycle to assure that parts are brought up to the proper temperatures, detects and reports faulty operations, removes parts from furnace, performs the appropriate quench operation.
  • Must perform these duties under time restraints and in multi task scenarios.
  • Help maintain equipment by reporting any problems to your supervisor and writing issues up on the maintenance log sheet.
  • Follow all Company Policies set forth in the Employee manual with Special attention paid to Health and Environmental regulations.

  • High School Diploma Equivalent GED
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds by hand in a continuous motion.
  • Starting rate is based on level of experience
  • Shifts: 6:00am to 2:30pm, 2:00pm to 10:00 pm, and 10:00pm to 6:00am.
  • 5 day work week.
