Position: Engineer/ Project Manager

S&ME is an employee-owned engineering firm that provides civil, geotechnical, environmental, planning, landscape architecture, survey and construction services. Consistently ranked in the top 100 of ENR's Top 500 Design Firms, our markets are diverse and include transportation, energy, water/wastewater, commercial development, industry, healthcare, education and government. We recruit top talent and are currently seeking a full-time Engineer/Project Manager to join our Energy team in Columbus, Ohio. Candidate must be a registered Professional Engineer in Ohio or have the ability to obtain an Ohio license.

The successful candidate should have experience in water resource engineering and will serve as the hydrologic and hydraulic analysis discipline leader within our Columbus, OH civil design group. The civil design group undertakes a wide range of projects with a particular focus on the evaluation and design of dams, landfills, reservoirs, storm water management, slope repairs and erosion and sediment control. Specific experience with dams, including inflow studies, spillway design and dam break modeling is desired. In addition to engineering analysis, the successful candidate will be expected to manage projects and oversee the preparation of project documents, including drawings, specifications, and reports. Responsibilities will also include quality assurance and quality control of projects, mentoring junior staff, project planning and management, assessing project risks, reviewing project elements for completeness and accuracy, and determining design methodologies.

Qualified candidates are expected to have significant experience with hydraulic and hydrologic analyses, but additional experience with erosion and sedimentation controls, roadway design, site design, or other civil projects is a plus.

General responsibilities include development of conceptual designs, engineering analysis of design alternatives, drawing/detail preparation, construction cost estimating, specification preparation, construction site inspections, proposal and report preparation, schedule and budget management, and communication with internal and external clients. 


Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required, MS is preferred;

Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio or ability to obtain within 6 months;

Minimum of 6 years' experience in Water Resources/Civil Engineering;

3 years in Project Manager role preferred;

Proficient in the use of AutoCAD;

Excellent technical writing and verbal communications skills with peers and clients;

Willingness to travel on temporary assignments.

GIS experience is a plus
