Description

Glen-Gery, a part of Brickworks Limited, is a leading brick manufacturer that is currently looking for a knowledgeable and experienced PLC Electrician. This person will be responsible for overseeing the plant kilns and firing process which includes maintenance of the PLC systems. This person will also be providing necessary information to both corporate and plant management in an effort to maintain and improve the quality and cost levels of the product and process.

 

COORDINATES WITH: Plant Supervisors, hourly production employees, plant office staff, outside vendors

Provides management at both corporate and plant level with necessary information and assistance needed in order to improve and maintain the quality and cost levels of the product and manufacturing process. This position requires a working knowledge of production facilities and processes to ensure that decisions and recommendations are made objectively.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the plant wide PLC system maintenance and upgrades
  • Help set up networking of PLC's and ancillary equipment (e.g VFD's and Belt Scales) 
  • Perform in-plant evaluations to determine problem areas and analyze potential resolutions/improvements
  • Communicate with manufacturers on the design and costing of new or replacement equipment
  • Monitor and progress particular projects from design stage to commissioning
  • Assist at plant level in carrying out trials for product and/or process development

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:

  • Advanced computer skills including PLC and ladder logic and SCADA systems
  • Working knowledge of kiln and dryer design and operation
  • Knowledge of current developments in process design and control
  • Possess project management skills
  • Self-motivated with good organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work with people
  • Ability to occasionally travel and alter work schedules
  • Ability to perform physical labor

 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in one of the following or related fields: Manufacturing Technology/Process Engineering, Electrical Technology or Ceramic Engineering
  • Requires 3 to 5 years of production related experience with PLC's and automation
  • Experience in forms of firing and drying processes is a plus
