This position is responsible for:
Performing residential loan underwriting activities related to loan request with the goal of achieving the optimal outcome for Northwest and the customer.
Working within the established lending and exception guidelines of Northwest, investors, specific loan products, and industry standards.
Ensuring compliance with established Northwest policies, guidelines, and regulatory requirements
Evaluating the credit worthiness of applicants, ensuring that they meet credit, income, asset, financial stability, and documentation requirements.
Communicating decision (commitment, approval, suspense, denial) to appropriate brokers/correspondents and issuing proper documentation
Accurately setting and clearing conditions placed on loan approvals
Examining loan documentation submitted for loan and underwriting decisions for accuracy and completeness
Making timely and accurate decisions while thriving in a fast paced environment
Serving as subject matter advisor for questions regarding conventional (FNMA, FHLMC) and government (FHA, VA, USDA) loans
Performing related duties as directed by manager
Working as part of a team
Working with onsite equipment
PREFERRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree with 3 years’ experience as DE Underwriter preferred. 5 years’ experience underwriting conventional loans, 3 years’ experience underwriting VA and USDA Rural Housing Loans preferred. Thorough knowledge of residential mortgage loan products. Working knowledge of Ellie Mae – Encompass loan origination software, Freddie Mac – Loan Product Advisor, USDA – Guaranteed Underwriting System (GUS), FHA Connection preferred. Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to define and solve problems, establish facts and make well-reasoned decisions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work closely with other team members is needed. Proficient organizational and multi-tasking skills with attention to detail, accuracy, and thoroughness a plus. The ability to work independently in a fast-paced high production environment under time constraints and to work collaboratively in a team environment managing multiple deadlines and priorities preferred.
REQUIRED REGISTRATION: Federal Housing Administration Connection (FHAC) registration must be maintained throughout the duration of the position. Candidates who do not have an active DE designation will be required to obtain their DE within 12 months of their start date with Northwest. This designation must be kept current, active, and in good standing with HUD throughout the duration of holding the position.
