The R&D Leadership Development Program is a high potential program designed to develop key skills and experience that will lead to R&D positions within our Performance Coatings Group.  In our Performance Coatings Group, you will be assigned to one of our technical divisions which includes Automotive, Coil, EPS, Industrial Wood, General Industrial, Packaging or Protective and Marine to gain key experiences and activities to prepare for a Chemist position.   

Experience and knowledge gained in the R&D Leadership Development Program includes:

Build knowledge of paint and coatings chemistry and formulation
Execute testing methods and quality control using statistics software
Learn and build understanding of commercialization, product, industry and segment knowledge
Build expertise in project management and report out on results and findings
Build relationship with global supply chain and gain knowledge of plant operations
Build cross-functional partnerships with and understand the interaction of Sales, Marketing, Operations, & Technical Services to execute innovation strategy.

The Sherwin-Williams Performance Coatings Group supplies a broad range of highly-engineered solutions for the construction, industrial, packaging and transportation markets in more than 120 countries around the world. There are seven business units under the Performance Coatings Group, which includes: Automotive Finishes, Coil Coatings, Engineered Polymer Solutions, General Industrial Coatings, Packaging Coatings, Protective & Marine, and Industrial Wood Coatings.  The industrial markets we service include but not limited to:  Beverage & Food Cans, Furniture, Flooring, Cars, Airplanes, Marine, Oil & Gas, Electronics, Military and Appliances.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in science or technical related field including but not limited to Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and Corrosion Engineering
Must have 2 semester of Organic Chemistry and 2 semesters if General Chemistry courses complete
Minimum GPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
Ability to relocate for training, rotation assignments and post program position
Previous experience working on projects in a lab environment
Must be open to relocation based on business need for training, post program position and promotional opportunities
Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred:

Previous experience with project management
Previous Sherwin-Williams lab experience
Previous experience working in a customer service environment
Involvement in student organizations such as American Chemical Society, Alpha Chi Sigma
Leadership in extra-curricular activities/organizations
Paint and coatings industry knowledge or experience
Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Strong communication, relationship building and organizational skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint skills
Experience with Statistics Software

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to sit, stand, hear, and see on a constant basis
Must be able to walk, write, and type on a frequent basis.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to climb and descend stairs.
Must be able to bend, carry, reach, push, and pull on an occasional basis.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
May work indoors and outdoors as needed. Exposure to heat up to 120 degrees and cold to 0 degrees.
May work in areas where noise level is such that hearing protection is required.
May work in areas where toxic, flammable, and hazardous materials are present.
May be exposed to varying amounts of dust and dirt.
Work surfaces may include concrete.
Employee must be able to tolerate non-toxic paint odors and be able to wear a respirator as required.
Employee must be able to operate a computer and communicate via telephone.
Some travel to other locations, meetings and/or seminars is required.
