We are seeking an Assistant Teacher II which shares responsibility with the Lead Teacher for designing, implementing and supervising age-appropriate curriculum, managing all classroom activities and interactions, supervising students and volunteers, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment.

What Will You Be Doing?

1. Collaborates with teaching team in planning curriculum based upon knowledge of child development and observations of children's interests to provide an optimal and safe environment for young children.

2. Provides a welcoming environment for children and parents.

3. Portrays a positive, enthusiastic, professional attitude to parents, children and co-workers.

4. Demonstrates problem solving skills in communication with parents, co-workers and children.

5. Supervises and delegates classroom responsibilities to part-time assistant teachers, volunteers and student teachers.

6. Models flexibility in work schedule to meet the changing needs of Center enrollment and staffing patterns.

7. Provides supervision that ensures children are constantly attended by Center staff.

8. Monitors children in the group and reports any unusual symptoms to parents or administrator.

9. Participates in safety practice drills.

10. Maintains all required records including attendance, meal counts, conference reports and prepares other required classroom records (medication forms, developmental records.) Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to State Licensing regulations, NAEYC, SUTQ, and Center policies.

11. Collaborates with the Lead Teacher in arranging and conducting parent/teacher conferences at least twice a year.

12. Attends staff meetings and community workshops.

13. Responds to communications from the Hospital and from the Center director in a timely manner.

14. Utilizes Center materials and resources and helps maintain these resources to aide in continued Center educational growth.

15. Maintains cleanliness and order in the classroom.

16. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

17. Assumes responsibility for the classroom in the absence of the Lead teacher.


What Are We Looking For?
 Bachelor's degree or Associate degree in child development, early childhood education, or related field.
 Hands on experience in an early childhood education program desired.
 Communication skills necessary to effectively interact with children, parents/guardians, peers, teacher, and administrators.
 Ability to supervise and provide direction for part-time assistant teachers, students and volunteers.
 Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities.

Minimum Physical Requirements:
 Lift children up to 30 lbs. Constantly
 Able to sit (on floor) in close proximity to children during play and activity periods. Constantly
 Ability to lift a child into a crib and place them safely. Constantly
 Ability to actively supervise children during gross motor play. Constantly
 Ability to move rapidly in potentially unsafe physical situations: example child falling off the climber. Constantly
 Ability to bend over to pick up children by their torso, not by their arms. Constantly
