The Aerial COM Foreman leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the placement of aerial fiber and copper cables in order to meet customer needs. Ensures crew safety, keeping track of employee hours, completing daily and weekly safety briefings/inspections, and calls in project utility locations. In addition, the Aerial COM Foreman reads blueprints of projects and is responsible for production. This position oversees the Line team and works with other personnel from other departments.
Obtain all of the necessary licenses, permits, and materials for each job.
Oversee, accomplish, and ensure all work quality related to each project and assume full responsibility for its standard and timeliness.
Coordinate and delegate daily tasks to crew members related to digging and placing product.
Gain entry to site buildings for work crew and call in utilities located at each project site.
Drive, haul, and/or operate equipment to/from job sites to assist crews in completion of work.
Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety inspections to ensure the crews work safely.
Place aerial telephone cable, both copper and fiber.
Connect wires and cables to terminals and place various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
Perform aerial tasks, such as new cable installs, pole transfers, strand building, cable hanging, and lashing.
Perform construction work, such as digging holes, placing cable, air pipe, and inner duct work in various types of conduit systems and open excavations.
Climb utility poles and/or use aerial lift truck to place cables on poles per system design.
Complete all paperwork in a timely manner.
Train new hires and trainees.
Track employee hours, turning them in on time.
Keep the job(s) moving on time, clean up, and perform job restoration at the end of job.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, twisting, reaching above shoulder level, working in confined spaces, working off a pole or in a bucket. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind for 10 hour work days, with breaks. During storms this role may work in these conditions from 10 to 15 hours daily, breaks included.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 100 pounds
1. A High School Degree, or equivalent, with 8 years of experience.
2. 2 years of supervisory experience.
3. Possess a CDL Class A license.
4. Experience in general construction and in the operation of heavy equipment.
5. Understanding of advanced electrical principles, including knowledge of electricity and how to safely work around it.
6. Knowledge of customer's specifications with the ability to read and interpret prints.
7. Proficiency in all phases of line construction.
8. Ability to communicate effectively with customers and inspectors, providing quality customer service.
9. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
10. Precise hand-eye coordination.
11. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
1. 10 years of experience.
2. Possession of OSHA 10.
3. Excavator training.
