Description

Patient AccessRepresentatives (PAR) provide our world renowned healthcare team withcomprehensive administrative support. PAR's serve as the first point of contactfor patients and exemplify personal warmth, patient engagement, andprofessionalism. In this highly visible role PAR's support departmental teamsand interact with patients, families, and health care providers.
 

Patient AccessRepresentative duties include but are not limited to the following:
 

Responsible forinterviewing/registering/instructing patients in a face-to-face setting or onthe telephone.
Enters and validatesmedical, demographic, insurance, financial, and business data in a timely andcourteous manner to ensure master patient index integrity and creation of anaccurate claim.
Prepares standard patientmaterials including forms, labels, brochures, surveys, etc.
Maintains confidentialhealth records, processes physician orders, and schedules patients.
Provides patienteducation regarding third party coverage and liabilities. Communicates possiblepayment options and personally connects patients to financial counselor ifneeded.
Collects, posts, andbalances co-pays, deductibles and other patient payments.
Maintains expertise inPatient Access Services (PAS) legal and compliance requirements; incorporatesprinciples into workflows.
Recruits and trainspatients to access My UH Care Personal Health Record.
Maintains up-to-dateknowledge of computer systems, insurance/government regulations and UH/PASpolicies/procedures used within the department.
Functions as anintegrated team member and works collaboratively with other staff and providersacross the system to improve patient experience and department efficiency.
Maintains a clean andorganized work area. Will be cross-trained to perform other duties asassigned.  May be scheduled to work at off-sites.

(This role encounters Protected Health Information (PHI) as partof regular responsibilities.  UH employees must abide by all requirementsto safely and securely maintain PHI for our patients.  Annual training,the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to addressappropriate use of PHI in the workplace.)

Qualifications

Minimum 1 year ofexperience in a call center, patient registration, scheduling, office, banking,customer service or related medical field using computers required. Abachelor's degree will be accepted in lieu of 1 year of work experience.
High School diploma orGED required.
Degree or progresstowards degree preferred. Medical Terminology preferred.
Demonstrated ability touse PCs (and toggle between multiple applications), MS Office, and generaloffice equipment (i.e. printers, scanners, electronic signature pads, copymachine, multi-line phone, FAX machine, etc.) required.
Excellentkeyboarding/data entry skills required.
Must be detail-orientedand organized, with good analytical and problem solving. ability.  Notableclient service, communication and relationship building skills required.
Ability to functionindependently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment required.
Must have strong writtenand verbal communication skills and excellent spelling.
Professional demeanorrequired.
