About the Job

Description
Primarily responsible for scheduling patient appointments in a courteous manner.

Verifies and inputs insurance/appointment/patient information in a timely and accurate fashion from a back office or call center setting.
Handles a wide variety of patient inquiries regarding appointments and services to ensure patients can access services with minimal hassle or delay.
Depending on location, may also perform registration or clerical functions to ensure patients have prompt access to services.
Ensures department productivity standards are met/exceeded.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of computer systems, insurance/government regulations and Patient Access policies/procedures used within the department.
Performs other duties as assigned.

This role encounters Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of regular responsibilities.  UH employees must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain PHI for our patients.  Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required.
Degree or progress towards degree preferred.
Completion of medical terminology coursework preferred, or may be required to complete within six months of hire.
Up-to-date CHAA - (CHAA is a National Association of Healthcare Access certification for Healthcare Access Associates) or related medical certification preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in patient registration, scheduling, office, or related medical field using computers required.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology and patient scheduling experience required.
Proven knowledge of third party payor and managed care insurance requirements required.
Demonstrated ability to use PCs, Microsoft Office suite, and general office equipment (i.e. printers, copy machine, multi-line phone, FAX machine, etc.) required.
Experience using clinical computer systems required.
Must be detail-oriented and organized, with good analytical and problem solving ability.
Notable client service, communication and relationship building skills required.
Ability to function independently and as a team player in a fast-paced environment required.
Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
 Professional demeanor required.
