We recruit top talent and are currently seeking a full-time ODOT Structure Inspector to join our team in our Cleveland, Oho location. This individual will be responsible for the following:

Observe and inspect various construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans, and/or proposals for bridges, structure operations, piling, drilled shafts, excavation, cofferdams, cribs and sheeting, form work, false work, structural steel erection and concrete placement, etc.;

Documentation of field activities, observations, and testing results on construction projects, and their conformance with (or deviation from) project plans and specifications;

Daily use of field and laboratory information management systems, for recording of testing results;

Communication of field and laboratory testing results with Construction Services Project Management staff, contractors, and clients;

Mentoring, coaching, and training of less experienced technician staff in the areas of testing and inspection;

Calibration of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards.


Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or Construction Management, or degree that exceeds these requirements; or NICET Level III in Highway Construction Inspection Certification or have completed ODOT Advanced Structures Test;

Minimum of 18 months of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials required;

Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing), using the English language, required;

Ability to routinely lift 40 to 50 lbs. (field/laboratory samples and equipment), required;

An understanding of professionalism and tact, relative to interaction with all members of the design and construction team, including (but not limited to) site laborers, project owners, site superintendents, architects, design engineers, and project managers;

Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (Company will provide Personal Protective Equipment and inclement weather gear, as appropriate);

Ability to work and maneuver equipment (such as a loaded wheelbarrow) on uneven ground and around active construction sites;

Advanced Levels of Certification (In Multiple Fields) Required:

American Concrete Institute (ACI)

ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I

ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level I


Ohio Aggregate Level I

Pay rate is based on level of experience and active certifications. S&ME offers a Credential Incentive Program to assist employees in obtaining additional certifications.

This is a full-time position with competitive pay based on experience. Successful candidate must meet requirements of the company's Fleet Management Program, Substance Policy and Reference check program.
