POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Data Scientist is responsible for collaborating with business stakeholders, data scientists, and data engineers to create proprietary analysis techniques and deliver effective advanced analytics projects through the development, maintenance, and socialization of dynamic market models. As a Lead Data Scientist, you will be part of a strong Data Science team who leverage innovative tools and methods focused on delivering against strategic business opportunities. This position is responsible for delivering fresh insights from Statistics/Machine Learning models. Technical expertise lay in statistics, machine learning, optimization, modeling and simulation, mathematical programming, or data science.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Scope, develop, maintain, execute, and deliver data science capabilities / 'big ideas' to stakeholders
Advance relevant, informative, and user-friendly insights to help inform and influence strategic decision making with key business stakeholders across all SBAs.
Leveraging data mining, statistics, and machine learning to develop best-in-class analysis techniques & support data visualizations that answer strategic questions from stakeholders.
Research & evaluate industry best practices / data science innovations; continuously improve by integrating learnings into projects whenever possible.
Prioritize work according to relative size-of-prize and ability to implement.
Master Smucker business processes, product portfolio, and become a business ambassador
SELECTION CRITERIA
Education
Bachelor's Degree is required (Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science, Applied Economics, Econometrics, Psychology, or another relevant field)
Master's Degree preferred (Statistics, Applied Math, Computer Science, Applied Economics, Econometrics, Psychology, or another relevant field)
Experience
5+ years of practical experience in data science, statistics, or another analytical role is required
Programming/Developer experience highly preferred
Skills
R, Python, or other relevant open source programming language is required
Expert knowledge of statistics and machine learning tools and methods, including time series analysis, regression, clustering/segmentation, optimization, survival analysis, supervised and unsupervised learning are required
Experience with Shiny, Spark, Hadoop, Cloud computing (GCP and/or AWS), Data Warehouse Platforms (ERP), and/or SQL
Ability to solve analytical problems using complex quantitative approaches is a must
Comfortable manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data from varying sources is a must
Ability to effectively summarize and communicate results from analysis to a diverse set of audiences with varying backgrounds and technical skills are required
Other
Use of Spotfire/Tableau for visual analytics is strongly preferred
Familiarity with syndicated and POS data sources a plus
Self-motivated and ability to handle multiple/diverse tasks
Detail oriented and inquisitive individual who enjoys data and working on a team
Ability to build strong relationships with sales, marketing, finance, and category teams
Aptitude to complete projects under guidance with minimal supervision
Continuous improvement mindset
Ability to travel as needed
