The Director of External Communications will be responsibility for creating from the ground up executing an integration of M&A alongside internal communications, a framework for executing crisis communications, leading a process to develop and implement insights and an approach around measurement and working alongside the Director of Integrated Communications to lead, develop and implement (again from the ground up) a yearlong media strategy which encompasses our brand strategy and three pillars.

The Director of External Communications will execute M&A, measurement and media relations strategies. When VP of Communications is out, He/S will also have final authority on crisis communications work laddering up to the CMO and CEO.

Responsibilities:

Partnering with the VP of External Communications and the Director of Integrated Communications, implement with company leadership and departments to evaluate, develop and execute strategies from start to finish for M&A, media, crisis communications and thought leadership opportunities to increase the visibility and brand relevancy of the company.

Collaborates with the VP of External Communications and the Director of Integrated Communications to lead research, planning and landscape analysis to inform development of external communications strategy and lead thought leadership strategies developing communications narrative and overall message architecture to work and implement across multiple business partners.

Works with VP of Market Intelligence team and collaborates with the Director of Integrated Communications to lead and measure integrated communications execution success and use research & insights to implement and execute communications strategies and thought leadership to business leads and executives

Partner with the Vice President of Corporate Communications on crisis communications strategy, to lead, plan and then execute the development and testing of any necessary media response

Works with the Manager of External Communications to lead the execution and development of writing and/or approve messaging to implement for press releases, media pitches, talking points, media statements, and more

Serves as a lead spokesperson for our company with external stakeholders such as media, social media and in times of crisis to implement next steps as necessary.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in communications or a related field

10+ years of experience of external communications - agency and client experience

Experience leading M&A or other related high stakes field or business partnership

Experience executing media opportunities, working with and leading external and internal clients, agencies, or cross functional teams ideally in both B2B and B2C settings

Extensive media relationships in both trade and mainstream media

Strong written and communication skills

Experience in leading and managing a team and working with executives

Proven ability to lead multiple projects and teams simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

Ability to lead and manage vendors along with an outside PR agency
