Job Description
GrafTech International is a global company with over 130 years of experience in the graphite industry. We are a leading manufacturer of high quality graphite electrode products essential to the production of electric arc furnace steel and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. GrafTech International is the leader in the graphite industry focused on maximizing customers' bottom lines and providing unparalleled service, while developing cutting-edge technology that sets the standard in the steel industry.
GrafTech International has an immediate opening for a scientist/engineer with a strong materials science and engineering background. The position will be based out of the Brooklyn Heights, OH location. The successful candidate will lead projects that will result in improvements to synthetic graphite materials used in demanding industrial applications. Direct experience with industrial carbon and graphite materials is a plus. Familiarity with statistical/mathematical modeling of data is preferred.
Job Responsibilities:
Lead graphite product and process improvement projects through a staged project management system.
Work closely with staff in technology, engineering, production, marketing, and sales to translate findings and recommendations into best practices and implement in production.
Adapt and extend industrial graphite technology in novel ways to solve problems of diverse technical nature and in support of new product and process development.
Provide written reports or oral presentations to management and customers.
Participate in setting specific objectives and standards for projects.
Continually expand own technical breadth and depth through study of open literature, proprietary reports, conferences, and personal contacts.
Qualifications:
A M.S. or Ph.D. in science or engineering or equivalent education and experience.
Strong working knowledge of materials science and engineering principles, especially metals, ceramics, and composites.
Experience with statistical and mathematical data analysis of data sets.
Experience with setting up, executing, and analyzing designed experiments based on statistical methods.
Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
Demonstrated ability to work in team environment.
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and think creatively.
Experience with industrial carbon and graphite materials is a plus.
