The Dental Clinic Supervisor meets the Care Manager responsibilities and competencies in assisting patients to move rapidly, uneventfully, safely and as effectively as possible through their episode of care. The Dental Clinic Supervisor delegates, supervises and provides patient care, and provides for patient safety and quality.Demonstrates competencies defined (*) in Dental Clinic Supervisor responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years, and select adult patients.In addition, the Dental Clinic Supervisor assists the Program Manager in supervising clinical operations, dental clinic staff, planning, evaluating and controlling program services. The Dental Clinic Supervisor ensures that internal and external standards are met.

Schedule: Full-time (Benefits-Eligible) **This is a second shift position (Hours 11am-7pm)**

Supervises in the planning and directing of clinic personnel for patient care provided on designated shifts.
Evaluates and monitors patient care and recommends changes to improve productivity, efficiency cost effectiveness and quality of patient care.
Expertly uses and serves as a resource for the Ambulatory and Dental Clinic process, Standards of Care, clinical pathways, and clinic specific competencies, to:
Follows plan of care including patient outcome parameters and physician/dentist's orders.
Delegates dental staff in patient care.
Supervise dental staff in patient care.
Plan re-appointments and referrals.
Plan, provide, delegate and evaluate patient/family education.
Collaborate effectively with all health care disciplines to facilitate patient outcome.

Communicates patient care needs/expectations/priorities to assigned dental clinic staff.
Effectively relates and interacts with patient, families, and health care team and serves as a role model for others.
Maintains professional standards and serves as a role model by setting professional goals and participating in activities to meet goals.
Orients new dentists, hygienists, dental assistants, processing techs, and registration specialist to clinical and patient care standards.
Participates in interviewing dental staff and recommends for hire.
Provides input and documentation as necessary to the Program Manager and Directors regarding employee, student and resident's performance evaluation.

Manages shift operations with dental department budgetary standards:
Performs daily staffing, scheduling within budget parameters.
Analyses data to justify and/or correct variances.
Day supervisor assists with evening and Saturday staff in absence of designated supervisor for that shift.

Provides leadership by delegating and supervising unit maintenance activities:
Charge data collection.
Infection control activities.

Delegates and enlists staff participation in Patient Care Services and hospital services:
Policy/procedure review and revision.
Helping Hand review and revision.
Patient/family advocacy.

Serves as chairperson for committees and meetings.
Participates in division and hospital committees.
Participates in hospital and community education activities.
Identifies educational needs, plans and presents classes:
Peer review.
Serves as a preceptor/resource.
Orientation and continuing education.
Clinical competency assessment.e. Schedules all staff for CHEX, CPR, OSHA Exposure Control Plan, and other mandatory in-services.

Coordinates research, quality improvement activities and special projects.
Provides assistance to and coverage for the Program Manager.
Plans and coordinates program activities to meet regulatory standards in one or more of the following:
Environmental rounds.
OSHA activities.
JCAHO activities.

Performs activities related to staff management:
Time and Attendance.
Scheduling.c. Incident report follow-up.d. Performance appraisal.e. Competency assessment, corrective action/work improvement planning.

Plans, implement and evaluates program changes.
Performs other related duties as assigned.



Education: High School graduate of an accredited dental assisting or clinical training program, Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Minimum 3 years experience as a dental assistant or equivalent in clinical experience.
Supervisory experience, and demonstrates knowledge of effective management.
Demonstrates good communication skills and ability to relate effectively with patients and families.
Demonstrates ability to treat and teach health to medically compromised patients.
Demonstrates leadership ability and self-motivation.


Must be able to see, hear, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care oneself with little or no difficulty.
