The CTCT division (a joint venture between Trimble and Caterpillar) develops positioning, control and automation products for earthmoving and paving machines in the construction and mining industries, using technologies such as GNSS, optical total stations, lasers and sonics. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer who will be responsible for architecting and implementing electrical designs in consultation with the system, control, firmware, and application software teams, in a series of prototyping, development and production build phases designed to provide the system with the necessary component hardware. Works with the product and project managers to ensure that the correct build states are completed as scheduled. The electrical engineer will also be responsible for an in-depth analysis of the design performance while providing guidance and test plans for the design verification and regulatory teams.
In addition to the above, CTCT also engages ODM developers for the design and manufacture of system support products (tablets, valve modules, etc). The electrical engineer will have as a minimum, a monitoring role, assisting in the design management of the ODM. In-depth design reviews,
Offer advice on critical areas, and,
Be able to communicate concerns to the ODM.
Lead the technical expertise of IMU designs
Contributes authoritative technical expertise in a particular technical area, which can be used in multiple systems.
Generates input to his/her own task plans and schedules.
Identifies and develops new technologies for new or existing products.
Assumes leadership role in day-to-day technical issues.
Responsible for attending technical trade shows, conferences and seminars.
Assumes leadership role in finding the expeditious resolution of critical complex technical problems.
Conducts and generates input to the design review.
Supports the successful transition of completed products to manufacturing by providing pertinent ECNs (Engineering Change Notices), contributes to writing test procedures, and designing test fixtures. (entry level)
Contributes information and support to presentations to customers and to discussions of technical issues at program reviews. Supplies guidance on technical matters and task schedules.
Makes presentations to customers and discussions of technical issues at program reviews.
Supports the successful transition of completed products to manufacturing through planning activities such as NPI (new product introduction) product builds.
Skills & Experience Required/Preferred:
Master of Science Electrical Engineering or equivalent
10+ years of relevant experience
Strong electronic circuit design expertise.
Familiarity with C and C++ firmware development
Strong testing and circuit debugging experience.
Strong written and verbal communication skills needed to write technical / functional specifications, test plans and other documentation.
Electronic Circuit research experience
Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) experience with accelerometers and gyroscopes needed.
MEMs sensor experience needed.
SPICE (PSpice) simulation program experience.
Agile PLM and Oracle ERP experience preferred.
