Job Description

MAINTENANCE TECH I JOB SUMMARY:  This position is responsible for troubleshooting and servicing all production and support equipment with the facility in a safe and efficient manner. This positon works closely with Operations to provide maximum facility support.

Primary Responsibilities are, but not limited to the following:

  • Repairs, maintains, and installs wiring, motors, motor controls. PLCs, AC/DC drives, transformers, and meters.
  • Generators, lighting, instrumentation valves and other electrical systems.
  • Troubleshooting and servicing all production and support equipment within the facility in a safe and efficient manner while ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Provides technical support by operating a variety of electrical testing equipment in locating and determining types of electrical malfunctions within the plant.
  • Application of NFPA Guidelines including publication 70 (National Electrical Code)
  • Studies plans, drawings, specifications and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs or installations.
  • Keeps daily time and materials usage reports and records information in SAP and PEAK
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance
  • Disassembles machines to maintain, repair, or replace broken or worn parts, using hand tools.
  • Monitors the housekeeping standards in the break room actively managing the cleanliness of the storage shelves and items stored in the refrigerators discarding abandoned food products.
  • Assist temporary employees with understanding task assignments while reinforcing SQF standards and Graphic Packaging Internationals core values.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor and Manager

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • S. diploma or equivalent required
  • Manufacturing experience required
  • Basic computer skills, data entry required
  • Visual Color Discrimination and ability to match or detect colors and shades of colors required
  • SQF compliance experience preferred
  • 2 years electrical or vocational degree preferred
  • 2-3 years troubleshooting experience with close support of production equipment
  • Experience with electric motors, drives & PLC’s
  • Understanding of National Electric Code (NEC)
  • Familiar with AIB / HACCP / SQF compliance standards preferred
  • Familiar with Food defense compliance standards preferred

 MECHANICAL SKILLS:

Good mechanical aptitude skills needed

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or equivalent

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Company issued Fork Truck Operator’s license.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

WORK SCHEDULE:

Employees are required to work 12-hour shifts including weekends.

Occasional overtime is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Prolonged standing for extended periods.

Awkward and/or repetitive movements.

Lifting up to 50 lbs.

Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.

Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee is regularly exposed to dust, fumes, heat, cold, vibration, toxic conditions, and potential work hazards.

            The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Personal Protective Equipment (hearing protection, safety glasses, safety shoes, hairnet) is required.  Other PPE may be required for specific tasks,
