Role / job description:? Engineering Technician Software Operator is responsible for testing the latest iteration of software in our autonomous trucks. They shall be responsible for ensuring autonomous software and hardware are functioning as intended for a given mission. Will provide detailed feedback for system maintenance and improvements, as well as while providing remote troubleshooting assistance to system owners. They are expected to collaborate with managers, dispatchers and other drivers for program work and troubleshooting, as necessary. They will be required to translate technical jargon and provide clarification for the driver to understand.

Must pass a number of training checkpoints, both in and out of the vehicle. Expected to keep all project details confidential.
Maintain high standards of safety, inside and outside of the vehicle;
Consistently demonstrate situational awareness, an understanding of the technology in their care, and a willingness to constantly adjust to changes in the environment;
Monitor software systems with constant focus
Ensuring the proper set-up, monitoring and troubleshooting of the autonomous software, logging responsibilities and providing remote assistance;
Communicate and work cross-functionally with various teams to maintain proper software systems operation;
Recognize and track issues in software and testing other aspects of our driver system;
? Represent the team and drive creation or improvements in cross function process;
Evaluate the real-world performance of the self-driving system;
Complete reports, procedures, and tests in order to collect data for the engineering team;
Maintains current knowledge and adherence to all operating policies, procedures, and directives;
Arrives to work on time and with proper credentials on his / her person and is ready to work;
Properly care for assigned vehicle and all components as prescribed by the Company;
Control and manage emergency situations according to company procedures;
Follow all safety policies and procedures;
Able to work on a team environment and ride with another person;
Comply with zero-tolerance policy regarding the use of alcohol or drugs by self-driving vehicle operators during a shift, including randomized drug testing; and ? Other duties as required
BS / BA degree or at least 3 years work experience
At least 21 years old
Minimum of 5 years of experience driving on public roads
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to type at least 40wpm
Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (Gmail, Hangouts, and Drive, including Sheets and Docs)
Proficiency with using a touchscreen smartphone (Android preferred but not required)
Clean driving history (no greater than 1 point off your license in the past 10 years)
Flexibility with work hours during busy test periods. Must be willing to work overtime, evenings and weekends as needed - including AM and PM shifts.
Requires near / far depth and color vision to safely operate a self-driving vehicle and computer
Must be able to successfully complete in-house driving course / examination;
Must be able to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and / or weekends, as well as overnight shifts and travel for up to one month;
Able to be in confined seated position to operate vehicle or systems for up to four (4) hours at a time for a total of up to eight (8) hours per day;
Able to operate grip gear shift, brake release and steering wheel requiring coupling forces up to ten (10) lbs.
Most work is accomplished outdoors in a vehicle.
