Job Description

Plastics News is looking for a research intern to enhance our existing rankings and lists, in order to grow our data offerings. This is a paid internship, and primarily involves adding records to our rankings of plastic processors. The researcher would also gather leads for survey prospects, fact check, verify existing data and conduct deeper dives into company plant location data.

Applicants should be self-starters and be able to work independently. Follow style and data rules. Abstract thinking and new ideas welcome. Data sources include company contacts, company websites, news coverage, public filings, industry associations, accurate data inferences and search engine results.


Independent research
Fact checking
Pursuing data leads related to the businesses we list
Contacting trusted sources via email and phone

Cold calling
Gathering research for stories
Conduct spot research for reporters and editors as requested

Basic Qualifications

Strong organizational skills
Diligence with attention to detail
Accuracy expected
Ability to meet deadlines

Critical thinking skills
Coachability for learning about the plastics industry to assist with data interpretation
Coachability for editorial data guidelines
Must be able to adhere to a style sheet
Comfortable manipulating data via Excel

Experience working with datasets and standardization
Error capturing and proofing
Experience working with Microsoft Access a plus
