GrafTech International has a challenging opportunity for a Director of Continuous Improvement.The successful candidate will champion and leadthe strategic and tactical deployment of Lean/Standardized Work/Continuous Improvement across the company. The individual will act as a working consultant to educate and coach company personnel from top leadership to individual contributors as to their evolving role in the Lean transformation.Thisposition will be based the Corporate officein Brooklyn Heights, OH.
Works with and through business unit and functional leadership to set goals and objectives for supporting company process improvement projects and creating the right sponsorship.
Employs Lean-Six Sigma methodology in order to accomplish business objectives including the creation, implementation, and evaluation of process improvements that reduce lead-time, eliminate non-valued added work, improve yields, and improve process capabilities.
Provides appropriate and timely training and coaching at all levels and will lead improvement projects.
Develops internal Lean Leaders and mentors them while they develop Lean-Six Sigma skills and lead improvement projects.
Focuses on implementing manufacturing and business process improvements, increasing capacity, reducing lead-time, improving yields, improving process capability, and reducing WIP, defects, and costs.
Establishes short-term (quarterly/annual) milestones within the framework of the longer-term Lean journey.
Works as a transformational leader and change agent with business unit and functional leadership.
Deploys the Lean strategy, monitoring results, and reporting progress.
Leads and manages Lean-Six Sigma project portfolios in order to accomplish measurable business process improvements.
Designs, implements, and maintains effective metrics and project plans to ensure improvement team targets are consistently met or exceeded in a timely manner.
Conducts process evaluation studies to verify and improve capability or lead-time.
Provides Lean-Six Sigma training to all levels of personnel appropriate to their roles.
Provides leadership, direction, and coaching to improve team members in all improvement aspects.
Propose and maintain a global project pipeline.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field.
Fifteen or more years of experience in manufacturing/heavy industry.
Five or more years of demonstrated progressively responsible management experience.
Three or more years of demonstrated experience leading and deploying "TPS" Lean and Six Sigma improvements in a manufacturing environment.
Prior experience as plant manager.
Six Sigma Black Belt.
Ability to develop a clear, long-term strategy for Lean including a vision, milestones, and measurable results.
Demonstrated experience in implementing Lean methodologies, including demandBachelor's degree in scientific/engineering discipline.
Strong statistical and technical expertise with a strong data analysis mindset.
Certified as a Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
Strong knowledge of technology; Microsoft applications, Visio, Minitab, and various statistical software.
Minimum of at least seven years' experience in managingof continuous improvement and problems solving programs at divisional or corporate level. Hands-on experience is essential.
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement problem solvers community and governance continuous flow, Kanban, visual control, 5S, OEE/TPM.
Demonstrated experience in using Lean tools, including Value Stream Mapping, waste walks, spaghetti charts, hour by hour boards.
Demonstrated experience in delivering Lean training.
Demonstrated experience in leading DMAIC projects.
Demonstrated experience using Six Sigma tools, including process mapping, SIPOC, CTQs, Cause & Effect Matrix, FMEA, and Gage R&R.
Demonstrated experience using statistical tools, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, design of experiments, SPC charting.
