What you will be doing
The Senior Director- Government Business Development operates as the expert in all Federal Health System (primarily Department of Defense) government opportunities, trends, challenges, and legislative actions that may influence future opportunities for AmerisourceBergen.
Leads the expansion of AmerisourceBergen opportunities and relationships in the Department of Defense (DoD) and other relevant agencies across the Federal Government sector.
Uncovers and executes against opportunities to gain/maintain pharmaceutical prime vendor status in key Federal Government agencies, primarily the DoD
Interacts effectively with and understands the needs of all levels of senior level government officials of the various agencies of the DoD within the US Federal Government; understands inter-workings of customers' various decision-makers to readily differentiate from gatekeepers.
Leads key enterprise-wide projects that elevate the relationship between AmerisourceBergen and key Federal Government agencies, primarily the DoD
Works with HS&SS Marketing to create intellectual capital materials that establishes AmerisourceBergen as an industry thought leader through trade articles, speaking engagements and sales messaging platforms.
Responsible for supporting the delivery of the DoD fiscal year revenue and profitability goals
Effectively manage any existing contracts to ensure complete compliance and customer satisfaction
Coordinate across the AmerisourceBergen matrix organization to uncover new opportunities for growth within the customer
Focuses on the customer, creating strong customer rapport, and building showcase models accessible in future sales situations.
Actively manages new business opportunities and partners with company subsidiaries to execute strategy.
Drives value propositions, solicitation/bid responses and marketing strategies through the organization and directly to the customer in high-level selling situations; acts as the solutions selling role model leading medium to large deals.
Gathers information; analyzes and develops strategies addressing dynamics that may affect area of responsibility using solution selling techniques.
Coordinate with the AmerisourceBergen Technology Group to expand technology opportunities within the Government customer base.
May be required to complete and receive a passing score on defined certification course(s) as determined by senior health systems sales management.
Performs related duties as assigned.
What your background should look like (minimum qualifications)
Requires broad training in fields such as business administration, accountancy, sales, marketing, computer sciences, or similar vocations generally obtained through completion of a four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
Normally requires a minimum of ten (10) years directly related and progressively responsible sales experience
A minimum of five (5) years of previous experience working closely with Government accounts.
Significant Government distribution contracting, Government distribution logistics, and/or extensive military background
Demonstrated ability to expand revenue in government agencies
Thorough understanding of health systems
Understands health systems trends and operating assumptions
Proven track record of leading large, integrated sales to large government agencies
Excellent negotiation skills
Superior analytical skills relative to financial modeling; fluent in profitability calculations
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Excellent integration, implementation, and management skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of computers necessary to operate effectively with company systems and programs
