Lead Software Engineer

TheLead Software Engineeris responsible for the analysis, design, development, testing, and support of the practice facing product roadmap in alignment with overall company goals and objectives. Works closely with a team of creative partners, marketing experts, developers, QA engineers, and project managers on various software initiatives. Assistance with UI design, development, and performance. The lead software engineer is also expected to guide the team in architectural decisions and best practices to support future development and minimize technical debt.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the but are not limited to the following.
Design, implement, and the prescription platform that supports veterinary customers, pharmacy, warehouse/supply chain and customer service
Work with other teams to prioritize and resolve cross team dependencies
Establish the technical vision and drive the adoption of development best practices and new technologies
Ensure that best practices and selected technologies lead to quality deliverables
Understand Covetrus products from both a technical and business perspective in order to develop and troubleshoot problems in a rapid and productive manner
Provides leadership and mentors software engineers in a cohesive, high-performing, agile team.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
7+ years of professional software engineering experience
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
COMPETENCIES (SKILLS AND ABILITIES)
Understanding of data structures, algorithms, microservice architecture and design patterns
Exposure to Java Spring helpful
Mastery of REST based web services
Mastery of creating SQL queries against a relational database, as well as experience with NOSQL Databases
Experience with Agile software development methodologies
Proficient in modern product development processes and pipelines
Proficient in effective troubleshooting and issue resolution techniques
Capable of understanding complicated systems quickly
Experience in leading team members through Software Engineering & Architecture best practices in a professional setting
Experience with translating high-level strategy to tactical execution
Stays current of new technology developments and examines opportunities to apply the new technology advancements where appropriate
