Bioinformatics Scientist - RI Cardio Garg

The Bioinformatics scientist will work to help develop, maintain and refine bioinformatics workflows and analytical tools for genomic data analysis. This person will have practical knowledge of bioinformatics tools and resources and experience with analysis of gene expression datasets including those generated from transcriptomic (RNA-seq and single-cell RNA-seq), epigenetics (ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq) and proteomics platforms. Additional collaborative projects may involve human genomic data analysis which would include alignment, variant calling, and downstream annotating. These projects include working with various Next Generation sequencing software packages, public genomic databases, and variant annotation databases. The scientist will work as part of a team with investigators in the Center for Cardiovascular Research and bioinformatics experts in the Research Institute in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment.

Responsibilities





Uses Information Technology skills and competencies to design, develop and implement:
Competence in using languages such as R, C/C++, PERL, Java or Python with expertise in use of MATLAB
Bioinformatics tools and visualization packages such as Integrated genomics viewer, Samtools and/or HOMER tools.
Automated processing and analysis of large data sets through high performance computation systems.
Algorithms and computer software for analyzing high throughput, massively parallel genomic data sets.
Experience with Linux operating system.

Collaborate effectively with researcher to maintain awareness of current literature and evaluate community- developed bioinformatics tools.
Effectively manages workload through one or more of the following:
Good analytical and problem solving ability.
Excellent organization and time management skills.
Work independently as well as with other team members to tackle complex problems. Maintains professional standards by setting professional goals and participating in activities to meet goals.

Qualifications





KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

BS/MS in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Molecular Genetics or related field with experience in bioinformatics.

Experience:

Experience in molecular biology and/or human genetics highly preferred.
