Sr. Manager, AFH Coffee R&D
Lead process development for AFH products, including design of pilot plant (PRL) experiments, creation of test plan for plant trials, Sales Samples, and SOP. Responsible for plant trials whether on-site or remote.
Develop expertise in manufacturing processes for AFH products at Smucker facilities. Understand and update the Transformation Flow Sheet for AFH manufacturing processes.
Lead Tech Readiness for AFH new product development projects (Innovation, Renovation); lead technical teams to meet project deliverables and timing.
Become a Green Belt expert in Tech Readiness; aspire to Black Belt level by assisting in instruction of the Tech Readiness Green Belt Training Program.
Understand general capabilities and processes at Contract Manufacturers for AFH products; liaise with CMs for product and process development, including plant trials, Sales Samples, and SOP.
Lead QA and/or HS&E Key Elements; conduct monthly GMP inspections for Coffee R&D areas in Discovery, including reporting and documentation through eMaint or other systems.
Plan, execute, analyze and summarize pilot-scale and plant-scale test runs for new product development, process design and scale-up.
Utilize systematic engineering approach to optimize product, process & methods for scale-up and troubleshooting in coffee manufacturing.
Bachelor's degree or higher in an Engineering field is required.
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in Engineering and/or Research & Development is required.
Credit towards this experience requirement will be considered for advanced degrees.
Engineering experience with application to new product development in a beverage or food related field is highly desired.
Proven experience in applying engineering principles to solve complex technical problems in manufacturing processes / process development.
Demonstrated project management skills through process/equipment qualification and/or Tech Readiness.
Strong relationship building skills and fostering collaborative relationships.
Ability to work independently, with guidance only in complex situations.
Excellent critical thinking and experienced problem solving.
Proven ability to apply statistical thinking and decision making.
Very well organized with strong documentation capability.
Up to 20% travel required ongoing; may be up to 40% initially including international.
Must be willing/able to drive a company or rental vehicle as needed
