Job Overview


Manage IT@UC Network Operations team responsible for the ongoing performance, 24x7 availability and security of the university's network and voice services. Collaborate with university units and IT partners to develop, maintain and implement solutions that address the organization's current and future needs.

Essential Functions



Responsible for the daily performance, availability and security of the university's LAN/WAN (wired switches and routers), WLAN (wireless access points and controllers), network security (VPN, firewalls, and authentication systems), network support (DNS/DHCP, network management), and telephony (VoIP) services.
Ensure the security of the university's network by implementing the policies and practices that prevent and monitor unauthorized access, misuse or denial of service to a computer or other network-accessible resources.
Provide technical guidance to upper level management regarding new network technologies based on the organization's current and future needs; oversee implementation and adoption of services.
Interface with equipment vendors and Internet service providers; obtain quotes, negotiate contracts and process the equipment, software and maintenance purchases necessary for departmental systems; establish Service Level Agreements (SLA's). Ensure the network operations staff respond to customer incidents and service requests per defined Service Level Agreements.
Define and lead troubleshooting processes during and outside of normal business hours and participate in change management and root cause analysis.
Work closely with the director to create disaster recovery and business continuity plans for network and telephony resources; responsible for implementing in the event of a crisis.
Act as a limited working manager familiar with certain technologies in use in the university's network; at times work alongside senior engineers to implement solutions in areas of expertise.
Design, develop, implement and coordinate systems, policies, and procedures.
Oversight of department budget. Assist Sr. IT Management and the business office in the annual budget planning and departmental budget analysis to developing rates for departmental services and ensure cost effectiveness.
Manage multiple, moderate to complex projects; develop moderate to highly complex project plans; coordinating resources; timetables; communicates changes and progress; completes projects on time and on budget; manages project team activities.
Coordinate efforts across teams inside IT@UC, at UC, and with external partners, participate in peer knowledge sharing groups; develop technical solutions when necessary.
Audit information systems and assess their outcomes.
Preserve assets, information security and control structures.
Serve as expert resource to others and serves on committees and project teams.
Actively engage with staff, individually and as a group, about topics related to Diversity and Inclusion. Support and maintain a culture and environment that is open and inclusive. Ensure compliance with UC's and IT@UC's policies for Diversity and Inclusion where applicable. Work with directors and leadership to review, refine and evolve IT@UC policies and procedures related to Diversity and Inclusion.
May provide direct and/or indirect supervision to exempt and non-exempt staff (i.e., hiring/firing, performance evaluations, disciplinary action, approve time off, etc.).

Required Education



Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field.
Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications


Valid Driver's License.

Required Experience



Five (5) years of advanced level experience working with networking hardware and software including network design and implementation. Experience includes minimum three (3) years supervision.
Has previously participated in some level of supervisor/managerial proficiency training and/or certification.

Additional Qualifications Considered



CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, or related industry certifications.
Expert level knowledge in systems/platforms/technologies currently used by the department.
Degree or training in business administration or management.
